Losing one of my favorite fish :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think your bichir may make it

as far as my experince with them they are really really hardy fish
one of my ornates when it was 3"+ was attacked by a pleco and its tail looked all red and flaky and then the next day it got fungus and that was thw time when i started treating it with tetracyclin and the fungus came off and the wound looked pretty severe (2 finlets had dropped off and i could see the spine) but now he is all well and again the hyper active little critter he was

loads of good luck to you and the polli

hope it turns out well...

Keeper of the Ropes:If he's this debilitated, how is he supposed to come to the surface for air?
Since hes not active he probably willl\ not need to supplement it oxygen with atmospheric O2.If you're really concerned lower the water level or place some kind of platform near the surface so the water just covers him.You might have to medicate
for a cpl weeks to clear up the infection-Anne

I went to Wal-mart and got one of those suction shower caddy thingies and put the Bichirs up close to the surface of the water. I also placed a power head so that it would move the water through the caddy and used the venturi hose so that it would push air bubbles also. the bichirs seemed to respond and I could see an increase in gill activity. Just make sure it is not putting out the micro-bubbles as they can actually stick to the gill surface area and decrease their ability to get air.
