i think your bichir may make it
as far as my experince with them they are really really hardy fish
one of my ornates when it was 3"+ was attacked by a pleco and its tail looked all red and flaky and then the next day it got fungus and that was thw time when i started treating it with tetracyclin and the fungus came off and the wound looked pretty severe (2 finlets had dropped off and i could see the spine) but now he is all well and again the hyper active little critter he was
