Lost a ray today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dixon81 Dixon81 that is great. I bet she will easily go from blackworms to earthworms. Or try red worms. I found that my ray prefers "softer" skin worms....but recently has been hammering them all. So what do i know.

Once i got her on worms i have been feeding the crap outta her. She is 6 inches. I have not even tried to change the diet up at this time. I just wanna get her super fat (been 6 weeks so i will try pellets now)

If it helps, i feed her 3-6 worms (2-3 inches long) twice a day.....and more if i go by the tank and she gives me the "lip begging" look.

This is not her.....but this is the begging look from the mm

I'm sorry for your loss, that is tough for any ray keeper to experience. What are your pH readings and are they stable on a consistent basis? I would tend to agree this looks internal as there are no injuries or excessive redness on the belly.

Yes this lil one is skinny. Try and get it eating three times per day. I didn't see a size posted so here are two of mine to compare with so you have an idea of the amount of fat to shoot for at different growth stages like Bigfishnut Bigfishnut mentioned

As you can see there are no hip bones and there is a reserve of fat where the bones would be.

May i request the mod/ admin to add these pictures to the Stingray Feeding Sticky thread?
Picture will helps alot more vs the "Feed Them till You see a Hump " advice
:)

Blackworms can get addicting, so it's not surprising she's turning down other foods. Don't give up on offering other foods but this happens sometimes.

Happy to hear she is eating and still on the prowl, she should fatten up soon!

thanks for the update

I've been seeing a lot of experienced ray keepers losing rays lately and they almost all have these things in common. They have city water, run a drip/auto water change system, and use UV sterilizers. There might not be any correlation at all but it makes me wonder.

It could just be a parasite going around too...

You may be onto something. I think that all water changes......city water maybe more than well water. (I just had well water suddenly get ammonia in it. I was lucky as i test my tap water regularly). That combined with auto drip may add up......i would love to get an auto drip set up.....

She's doing.... still active and seems happy. Still on the black worms though, no interest in crawlers or shrimp....

a fish that is eating is a fish that makes me happy.

Keep pounding em in. Really stuff her for a few weeks. I bet she gets less choosy as time goes on. Most of my various fish seem to operate that way.
