LOTS of wild caughts these days, hmm...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Id love to be able to purchase wild any caught Parachromis cichlids or festae and would be willing to spend alot on on getting them (telling my partner they were only $5 each lol) but i carnt, thats the only downside to living in australia and that we now have K Rudd a dick as our priminster how embarrasing.

If i could get any over there would be so much money to be made if u breed them its almost impossible to find freddy or loisie hear, iv tried and only ever got a little sniff of a chance wich reminds me better go make a phone call on that note.

ive noticed this too. what i have also noticed is that alot of fish are being caught in florida "in the wild" and sold as wc. most folks think of wc as being ca/sa literally. i have a friend who travels to florida to see his kids and he brought me a wc mayan cichlid he collected in a canal. he said you can get just about anything down there.

So if I breed some Jack Dempseys then raise the fry in a kiddy pool in the back yard can I later "catch" them and sell them as wild caught? Or would I have to raise my tank bred fish in a natural pond to make this (false) claim?

DISCIPLE, I understand you are not supporting the claims you mentioned in the above quote and my sacasm is not directed at you, but instead is directed at those who may support the claim you mentioned...

I guess this may be an arguable opinion... but I would only consider a fish "wild caught" if it is the product of wild spawning having never been interupted from it's natural chain of evolution. Meaning when it's recent ancestors were produced and raised in the aquarium trade, they nor their decendants, are qualified to be considered "wild caught" anymore...

There is much to be said about an uninterputed cycle of 'survival of the fittest' and 'natural selective breeding'... Which is why true wild caught fish are considered an asset to breeding programs...

All of that aside, I personlly do not agree with removing a fish from nature simply to put it in a tank to be kept as a 'pet'. I do understand the benefits of introducing F0 blood into a breeding program and have no issues with those who use F0 fish to do so. But simply keeping them as pets I do not agree with...
