Some sort of large tetra?

Give the man a prize, with one exception, they were not large tetra. They were what I calll flitter fish. The smaller kind the size of neons, cardinals and such.

I was totally blown away at the damage the little bastard's did. On their own, insignificant little fish, but, I literally caught them in the act taking turns running up the the ray and giving it a nip.

It was so funny when I dumped them into the 300g with my big cichlids, they just got inihaled

So, now that the fish is out of the mystery you know what kind of fish.

I am going to be using the SW light so that I can attempt something I have never had success with. Real plants.

I have a 10ft 300g that cracked in the middle that I am repairing between sometime now and christmas and I have been really looking at it and wondering should I do a reef, an african tank, a tank for a couple of my monsters or maybe I do a symphony tank.

I just realized that I have my camera here, so I will take a pic of the tank and post it up, but, don't mind the water on the window.

Ok so here is the tank. (the one beside it empty is a 90g 3 side tank that I scooped for $100 all because of a tiny crack that is an easy fix/above the tank behind is one of my projects I am working on a solid oak reptile habitat just have to put in the view window and it will be ready to go)

The water is a bit cloudy because of the salt being released from the substrate. I figure it is going to take me a good week to get the salinity banged out of the tank. Must resist the urge to do brackish :P.

I have been meaning to do this tank for almost 4 years, yet always got sidetracked by turning the tank into something else.

I have a few very nice surprizes in a couple of my tanks that will look spectacular in here. I have lots of driftwood that I will be able to put in here from my other tanks.

When I was at one of the lfs last night, I was totally blown away by some of the micro fish they had which solidified in my mind that I was going to get this tank started tonight. They also had some very nice catfish that get no bigger than 3-4 inches. They also had some cories I have never heard of before that looked really nice.

Every time I have ever tried to do plants, I have come up with big FAIL. One time I did a nice planted look to a 180g with a variety of plants that I had shipped in from out of province only to find out that the juvi pacu in the tank was a hard core veggetarian BUHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAH.

I do have one fish that I think I could put in the tank but would like to get some thoughts from those of you that know little fishies. I have 4 Mesonauta Insignis(Festive's) in my 150g and might put them in but will wait till I put in the main flitter population first, listing them so that those in the know can say yea or nay about putting them in.

300g tank... 300 tetras 50 of six kinds. Columbian, lemon, flame, neon and black skirt
Topped with a Red tail shark, cory and couple of those tiny catfish you mentioned..

Something about schools of fish and they way they synchronize is mesmerizing to me; and the shark lurking about ..... well..hmm I want another tank lol

I don't have any luck with plants either. I even bought the special lights, the co2 system, the plant food.. and what do I get? DEAD PLANTS.

I have however had pretty good luck so far with anacaris.

So whats's the tetra's name that took apart your moto ray?, or did I mis something?
I'm guessing it was a bunch of red eye or buenos aires tetras

I don't remember the exact name but their body shape was that of a minnow kind of like that of a blood fin tetra. I also had a coupld of rosie red minnows in the tank that were in on it too. I had about 7-9 different kinds of little fishes in the tank.

When I put the ray in, I was thinking it would eat all the little fish and was not worrying about it to much as I thought they would be fast enough to live for a while. Apparently they were a little to fast.

From my studies of rays they are pretty delicate when they are little, so I also have some thoughts that it was not doing the best in the transfer from the tank it came from to my tank. I really don't know a whole lot about rays though.

So have to resist the urge to turn this into a full blown salt tank. Very tempting when I dropped the decor in, but, still gonna go with the fw flitter tank.

A couple of shots of the tank.

I took the second one with no flash so ya could get a truer picture of what it looks like in my office.

I have to wait for the salt content to leach out of all the rock that I just put in as of right now the salinity is popping 1.008. I figure I will give the tank a good filter sponge squeeze from one of my other tanks in the next few days to help the bacteria get a foothold.

Even though I really do not like fake plants, I use them. These ones came from another tank so I put them in to help the cycle. I hope to add some plants in the next few weeks. Though the aquarium society is having their annual fall auction and there is always nice plants there so might wait till then.
