Hi here's my new baby Bichir (~4.5 inches) I picked up yesterday from my LFS, a new monster fish shop that's recently opened up on the island. It's my first Bichir (so likely will be asking a question or two:) First and foremost, can anyone help ID him? I've looked at hundreds of species pix and vids but I'm still not sure, my best guess is a Lap but of course could be wrong -- any input would be much appreciated.

He's currently in a quarantine tank where he'll stay about a week before moving into his new home, an 8', 375 gallon tank that's being prepped now for him and a new 9" Golden Crossback Aro that's currently waiting at the breeders. Later I'll probably add a Flagtail to the tank.

He had been fed only small frozen shrimp at the LFS, but a few hours after putting him into the quarantine tank just out of curiosity I threw in a few sinking Ocean Nutrition Formula I pellets. I was pleasantly surprised to see him gulp them down. I'll be getting some other higher protein sinking pellets soon, but this morning I gave him half of a decent sized algae wafer and it was a kick watching him take the whole thing into his mouth and munch away.

Tonight I'll give him some frozen market shrimp, but likely won't be feeding any live food, want to keep him on the docile side as possible so he won't mess with the Aro.

In a day or two I'll begin some de-worming treatments with Praziquantel to be on the safe side, looking forward to having such an amazing fish/species in the fam.

Looks like it's a delhezi. You can tell due to it being light colored with stripes and its top jaw being longer than the lower jaw. With a Lapredei, the lower law is longer than the upper jaw.

Sweet that you don't have to pellet train it.

Thanks Rocksor, delhezi was actually 2nd on my guess list :) Do you think the bands will become more prominent as it ages or is it likely a broken banded delhezi as I saw mentioned in one really good YT Bichir video?

The bands will get darker once settled in. Also need a little substrate will help to color it up.
