Making a tank escape-proof.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ohhhhh that's nifty :) I was actually thinking about plants that like to be partially out of water, however 6" isn't much room in a 24" tall tank.

You could do Half n half... 6" is no good... i assume u have only the Del in there? if so then half the tank is good enuf and u wont need any cover on that too....

On my 15 gallon the hood had cutouts. These cutouts fit perfectly on the spaces in my 55 hood. They also just sit there so they aren't going anywhere. I cover them with food too to make sure. Never had any escapees knock on wood. Try finding a tough plastic material. If it doesn't fit in the space and is too big then hold it down with something

Sorry to hear about your O. Such a shame as it was a lovely looking fish! I never experienced mine jumping, did you try to hand feed? As i think this is the cause of them jumping.

As for future stocking: geo's prefer groups of 5+ so maybe look into dropping the RTBS and creating a amazon biotope. That would be my recommendation, but I am hugely bias as I love Biotopes! :)

I've heard they prefer groups, but I've also heard they're okay alone. What I think I may do is go get a second one.

And yes I did hand feed but only on a rare occasion, and I never held it above the water line, always a couple inches below.

OP that's really sad to hear, the same thing happened to me with my prized thick bodied male convict. I was at work when he jumped out, and he was dead by the time I got home 4 hours later :(

Best of luck though!

Aww ): Poor fishy...
I was so sad when I found him. But my dog helped me dig a grave in the back yard.

*gasp* but then it will look so ugly.
LOL. I don't do low water levels either.
Sorry 'bout your O.
:-(
I have used "crafts plastic canvas mesh sheet" for blocking gaps. Google that in Images.
It's used for doing straight rows in stitching. very cheap, you can cut to any exact, tight fitting shape with scissors. different stiffnesses available & different hole sizes.
I used as tank divider with fish too small for eggcrate. I just slip on plastic framing edges all around to use for dividers.
In a pinch, cut up plastic report covers or dividers and seal gaps.

I got tired of crying over skinny little pieces of loach jerky around my tank. LOL. those guys will squeeze up & out, every time. they're suicidal.
