I definitely agree that Pangea and Amazona are the best looking. Congrats on the great pick up! I am sure you will do wonderful things with it regardless.

That's a really nice thing to say, thank you. :) I've got another background to add to my choice list.

I wasn't too wowed by the stock photo:

but when I saw it set up in an actual tank I went "Wow!!" It's very dramatic but still natural looking. What do you all think?

I like that one as well. It adds lots of depth, something I think most fish tanks lack.

^ I agree with that statement 100%, depth is very important. A background with depth is like cutting a slice out of the wild, where tanks with thin or flat backgrounds look more like a tank than a habitat. I hope that makes sense. It's all about your taste and what you like. (unless you like bubbling pirate decor, then take our taste hehe :D)

I know this tank is going to turn out awesome! You have a very lucky Amphilophus!!

Thanks I can't wait either!

Thank you :)
I <3 Corgis, and I'm glad your not going to stock with pacu and arowanas and stingrays and other Monsters like most people with a 150! I like the tank and i am subscribing thread! Keep us updated

I think I changed my mind about 20 times on backgrounds today. This is a tough decision to make! Because I'm finding it difficult to visualize the type of look I want, I took to the internet for some inspiration and found a few pictures.

I loved both of the above "Amazon" type habitats, especially the second. Granted, they are both public aquaria with much more water volume than I have, but seeing these made me have a revelation.

I can't even see a background in either of these setups!

If I want to maximize on swimming room for my guy, I probably need to stick with the thinnest, least obtrusive background that still provides texture and interest.

Both of these backgrounds are about 3" in depth. I can still hide tank equipment behind the background, but wouldn't lose as much swimming room as I would with, say, the Aquaterra Amazona, which takes up a lot of room in a tank. To get an idea of just how much room the Amazona takes up, take a look at R1_Ridah's thread of his 180g setup. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4461639&postcount=11

I still think it's the most beautiful background that can be bought, and I would buy it if I had much smaller fish, but one of the reasons I chose a 2' deep tank was to give my fish lots of room. So the saga of choosing a background continues...

I would go with the Bulu and some strategically placed driftwood branches. Hopefully it doesn't cost to much so you can get the second background to. It's going to be a beautiful tank regardless of what you choose and that's one real lucky Midas.

Okay thanks for your help... to be honest I can't tell much of a difference b/t the Chimba and Bulu. Any reason you both chose that one?

To me the Bulu has more visual depth than the Chimba. But don't go by what others have to say, we don't have to live with it 24/7. I think either one would look really good after it has aged some in your aquarium. Perhaps shove some moss into some of the cracks to add to the effect.
