Very very bad idea to sell these hybrids, especially as Tex or RD.

If you want to breed hybrids as feeders or for your own enjoyment fine, but please dont put them out to the public.

Did I mention that this is a VERY bad idea?

Please move this to the Hybrid forum so more people dont get pissed off too.

...Bill

sorry to derail, but I disagree. Nothings wrong with selling these as long as you state what you have. The public can have access to all hybrids as long as they know what theyre getting. we cant controle the whole hobby to our own restrictions. True this can be easily mistaken for a pure fish, its just important to acurately lable them. This does belong in the hybrid forum, but I dont get how anyone can get pissed off about this.

I also think if you breed this back, it will show more of its other parent. good luck.

True, but this is to assume that the lfs will rely the information faithfully to their customers, and the customers would do the same for the next owner of these fish and their fry. I think we all know how likely it's going to happen.

on a side note, it looks like the mom is a cyanoguttatus, not carpintis...

I can say with certainty she's a Carpintis. I own both Texas and Carpintis', and sometimes it can be difficult to tell the differences past 3".

I raised her from a fry of two pure Carpintis parents.

When she is in spawning dress, she turns jet black tail/jet white head; half in half, just like the other Carpintis' I have.

Of course, in any situation, it's difficult to tell either apart on the surface once they get past the juvenile stage unless they're breeding. You almost "have" to own them between 1"-3" to know for sure what you've got. The way I can tell is my Texas are much thicker and slightly high-bodied--growing just a bit faster than the carpintis as well.

I haven't shipped before, as I'm not exactly in the habbit of selling off my accidental spawnings. However, I have bought from online sources quite a few times to get certain rare species my LFS cannot get, and I kept all of the shipping supplies they sent me just in case the time came that I needed to send out shipments. So, yes, I can send a shipment.

I live in Mobile, AL. Depending on what you're after, as well, could be expedient to pick them up if you're ever visiting the southern beaches. :)

Thats interesting. Ive owned 3 variants of carpintis (with 1 new locale variant on the way) and currently have 7 cyanos and Ive never had a carpintis with spots even remotely close to being as small as they are on yours...especially in the face. Also, for me, its usually easier to tell the difference once they are past 3 inches.

Do you know the source of the fish (as in the breeder or collector) or the variant of carpintis?

I agree....it's next to impossible to confuse the adults. Young juvies are another story.

What about 'normal' rd's in a lfs? Those are not pure rd's, so should you hop all over them too for not stating that in fact there is nearly no chance that they are pure rd's? Dont jump on the guy, its an interesting post, and should be in this section as it is two fish that many of us keep. I dont see why that guy had to jump on the OP, no reason.

Anyways, cool fish, it is too bad, I would have expected something that looked different. Maybe in time.

Nobody is jumping on anybody. The OP is not asking about the parents. He's asking about the hybrids from these parents. There is a hybrid board for a reason - for people to exchange information and share experiences about hybrids. He should be able to receive much more information there. I really don't see what you are complaining.
