Male or Female Jag?

Hi there, I got this fellow here, was told it's a male by former owner but then I am seeing ads online for a female jag that basically looks the same as my male... Which casted some doubts in my mind.

I looked at a bunch of videos and articles trying to determine this but I am still unsure... Thoughts?

I believe males tend to lose their vertical bars as they mature, witch leads me to believe yours is most likely a female, I'm no expert with jags just stateing my opinion, I'm sure someone will chime in with better info, nice pick up btw,,,

What I read aligns is what you are saying, the main part that confused me is I am not sure at what age these bars are supposed to be mostly gone by for males. Since it s a gradual process maybe my fish is a male but not mature enough kind of thing. But given he (she?) is 9.5" or 10"... Is that mature enough? Probably... So most likely female I guess

Was thinking keeping simply a pair of jag in my 180g, and keeping my school of silver dollars.. Undecided, since I am not sure how hard it would be to form a pair with fish that big. All pairs I had before were formed with juvies as they grow up, introducing a big male jag + big female in 180g out of the blue probably unwise? Anyway hopefully someone can chime in

I have a pair of jags that I’m keeping with silver dollars. They make excellent dithers. I also have a bichir and a few assorted cichlids to spread the aggression around.
