Male or female?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I still stand by my previous statement that this was not the way to go about it. Just cause you are more experienced then others doesn't give you the right to do what you did, I don't care how you or anyone else puts it. It just wasn't the right way to go about it, belittling people is just that no matter how you wanna dress it. You mislead and made fouls of those who are only trying to help, its very disappointing to see stuff like this happen on the board.
Does it work, sure, but is it the best/right way to go about it, no. You could have put a little more effort in, got that picture of her laying eggs first then wrote up a good, clear article about it with the same effect. Why didn't you do this, I don't know I am guessing it didn't cross your mind as it takes more time and effort then just posting "what sex, please help" then "no wrong" after people have tried to help.

My guess is a male, but does look larger than 5.5 inches.

I think this goes to proves that people should read more then the first page of a thread.

Actually, smarty pants, I didn't do it "your way" because if I had posted right upfront that she was a female, most of those who replied would have denied ever thinking she was a male, so they weren't proved wrong. This way, there was no way to deny those who were "positive" that Draco was a male.

Or would they even have read it?

Really? I see a dose of reality check. It's the world of internet. You can pretty much do and say what you want. Who's gonna find out? Who's gonna care? Many people take to this stuff with the mentality that it doesn't matter whether or not they are wrong. Substance is lacking in this site in general so when you say "it's very disappointing to see stuff like this happen on the board" I think, are you kidding? For a little post that proved how so many of you folks shouldn't jump the gun?
Why not say that for people that are too loose with their keyboards? Who post just for the count? Who give their measly .02 without any good reason for it?
I'm very disappointed that the boards here will, as it stands, never be sources of really reliable information because of people who buy and perpetuate hype, who really don't give a rat's ass about a subject they're posting about or are generally jackasses and allowed to frolic like mummy and daddy ain't around.
It's not like the post won't get buried under pages and pages after a few days and be totally forgotten. Those who were proven wrong or stumbled across the thread and watched rather than participated would be more careful of sexing based on superficial characteristics and/or would at least leave a little room for doubt.

You're nice for rubbing that in. Where's your article? :grinno:

I understand where you are coming from sinister. I too tire of people jumping on the bandwagon when they see the person above them posted male, well, it must be so 'I think its male'. Or look at the hump, its a male, or look at the finnage, its a female. But what becomes of this? Will this one thread change everyones views of how to truly i.d. an RD/Midas? I can tell you right now that I'm no better at it than before.

All I'm saying is that sexing threads will continue to be just like this one, and we will need people like you SK in every thread to remind the op that "you can't sex an RD/Midas based upon a nuchal hump or finnage." A daunting task awaits you. :D You are kind of like a super hero. :D

Lol I guess I'd better make myself a big cape with SK on the back then, eh? ;)

This is another problem, she has proven something here, but, like you said it will just disappear once people are done posting in it, just slip right of the end of the page like it never happened. If it was a well written article it could have been made into a sticky and kept there for all to see. The masses will still flock with their chance to add their "cool' or "I agree" to boost their posts but they will also read and learn (hopefully).
I too get tired of these people but I was dissapointed when I saw SK do this as I think she is an intelligent person and I read her posts exspecting to read a well writen post and even learn something new, not see her belittle others. The reason this annoyed me more then the usual post whores is on a place like this you need to find those who opinion you feel you can trust, then ignore the idiots. But when one of those trusted people lower themselves to the level of the "one liners" then what are you to think.

You want me to write an article, cause I will and I will use this thread as an example. People who skim the first page of posts then agree with whats there piss me off.

Lol I don't understand how you figure I've "lowered myself" in any way. I have proved a point, and even when this thread does get burried, at least there were a couple dozen people who read it and hopefully learned something from it, and that's good enough to me. I'm not expecting it to wipe out the problems this board has - god, I'm not oblivious - but even wisening up a couple new members is a start. With any luck, they've figured out that you "can't judge a book by its cover" when sexing fish, and maybe they'll start giving out (slightly) better information, which will then be passed on again...etc.

But, whatever. I'm not explaining myself or the point of this thread over and over again. You don't have to like it, or even agree with it, because its done. I see no problem with what has been done here, and I think the only people who will REALLY have an issue, is those who like giving out bad advice over and over again ;)

I dont see any problem with it either! A lot of times people say things and dont have any experience and back it like it is cold hard facts. This is an opinion forum and everyone is entitled to an opinion but folks come here to get good solid advise and correct answers...I do anyway. If I go somewhere and get bad info and such I'm apt to look else wear for what im looking for!?. I can't agree with you more sinisterkisses...you rock!
