Yeah dude. That sucks. In regards to most everything, theres always at least few bad apples lying below an apple tree. In time, with the growing need for reform, and the advancement of technology, hopefully most of these bad apples can be composted. They will have to be. Nothing is impossible.

Cars, Manufacturing plants, garbage disposal, all these necessities were harmful to the environment at one point and changed for the better (and continue to change for the better) out of necessity. Saying theres no way for the planet to sustain itself on mostly farmed animals and aquacultured fish is an anti-productive statement. Technology, ambition, and positive thinking will, hopefully, prevail one day.

At the way it works now it a crash and burn tactic. To create a biomass that would never be supported is the problem. What is really needed is smart management of wild fish. Look what has happened with the red snapper in the gulf of mexico. They reduced the limit and now with recent surveys they have made a great comeback. I dont think closed system man made lake aquaculture is a problem for it can be in a environement that can be easily cleaned compared to something like a an ocean cage.

Ocean cages were my main thought when suggesting aquaculture. Open water aquaculture is the way to go. As for fresh, that's where it gets more complicated. But both fresh and salt need to be looked at.

But smart management of wild fish is a good route as long as the limits and demands are kept in check.

Here's what I would like to know:

I get it, obviously if the fish you catch-like this one for example, you are gonna put to use and eat-I can understand that.

BUT

No where in the article does it go into detail about the mans intentions with the fish-we know that he doesn't want to spend the money on having it stuffed, but it doesn't say if he's gonna eat it (correct me if I'm wrong)

Here's my question to all of you hunter/spearfisherman that wanna "pat this guy on the back, buy him a beer and listen to his story"...
Do you think it is wrong of this guy-that we already know doesn't want to have it stuffed- that we later find out his intentions ARE NOT to eat it as well?

If you answer no, I think you have moral problems...and no, I'm not a "PETA" member.

I would think someone from Wisconsin that has been spearfishing for 43 years was looking for dinner. His generation did not practice ceatch & release, it was ceatch & eat.
But yes, if he did just throw it away I am sure everyone would condim his actions. Also the paper would have said so, because the news loves contraversy!

Thats funny, that fish was registered a few miles from my house. I did see a 64" at the bar the other day, guy brought it in to show everyone. Its a tradition to spear these fish and I dont see anything wrong with it. Plus they are one ugly fish!

Spear "fishing" is one of those things i will never understand or agree with. The same goes for bow "fishing".

If you lived in an area overrun with carp you'd understand. The State Fish & Game will do anything to get people out there to remove these fish from the waterways.

Then spear and bow hunt carp. I just never like seeing huge and old sturgeon and gator gar being needlessly killed for sport.

Sounds like a member of PETA, don't forget PETA does not want humans to use any animals in any way. That includes fish, they would tell you its wrong to lock up fish in a tank, how would you like it. Because to them humans and animals should have the same rights.

I guse they don't care about plant rights, its OK to kill them!

They are all nuts!:screwy:

i agree quit your dam crying

You shouldnt use profanities outwardly considering your only thinking for your self, pffft rights, what rights does a fish that is a hundred years old.

On a different not.
