Manzanita!!!

The biggest reason you need to bake it is that it will get rid of all the oil in side the wood and needs will dry it out, obviously I didn't bake it long enough and I sanded it down and the oil came out. For the best results with no problems bake it for 6 hours at 200 degrees if not longer

I baked for an hour more and it turned a boring brown color before that it was a really nice red color.

wow... ok. getting back to the topic. I bought a number of manzanita driftwood pieces from MFK vendor Manzman and I am very happy with it. I am able to screw it down to a piece of slate rock and tie a bunch of java fern on it so that it looks sort of like a bonzai tree. this blocks a lot of light so that algae doesnt grow on the wood and I have not had any other issues with it.

I have kept other types of driftwood and manzanita is my favorite to work with. Oh and I did get a great deal so it was frugal.
