watch it for infection around it... if you see any you have to take it off, or you can lose the ray... just be careful

Its ok it wont have one on its at a specialist discus store in London called chens discus. I think it was the guy who runs it's ray but he couldnt house it anymore so i wouldnt think it will have one on.

Rays only sting in defense.... dont worry about ur other fish,... the ray is now the highlight of the tank.... all other fish come in 2nd
lol
They only get infected if they use bamboo or organic matter as the sheath right? PLastic tubing wont cause infections.

Dont try it. One wrong move and you hurt your ray or it lashes out, you get stung. Not fun when you have a venom coated stinger going into your hand. They sting pretty much as a last resort IE. you decide to be dumb and touch them, they don't feel liek mating, or a fish tries to pick a fight.

I wont you can be sure of that the last thing i want to do is get stung or harm the ray, i was just interested in what they were. I dont have anything in the tank that will pick a fight with it and im not going to touch the sting or grab the ray or mate with it :ROFL:

nope... depending on how you put it on you can cut the skin around it... plus as the stinger grows it rubs on the skin.... take them off if you can, if not leave it and dont attempt to put another one on

AS they shed their sting, will they still sting after becoming detached and how does one go about finding and disposing of the sting since you all have rays?

When they shed it, the stinger is still venomous, and a new one takes its place. I actually want to know how you guys throw yours out too since i keep all of mine once i get the sheath off as I like to see how much bigger the stinger gets eat time.

i keep mine as well, if you boil them in hot water until it is fully white.... the poison is gone.... its protien based so it disolves under hot water.... i made a neclace out of one of my smaller ones... boiled it... sprayed clear coat paint over it to make sure there is no poison left on it... just make sure you dont sleep with it on lol
