Where would you draw the line on Marble pricing? How much is too much for ANY Marble in the country? Would you pay 4 digits? More? I know it depends on the ray but think about the one you think is the nicest in the country, what would you pay for it?

who's is the nicest in the country anyway? GR8's?

Are you kiddin me? It would be an honor sir. We all know you may as well be the godfather of Marbles. Someone says AAA Marble and Richard is the first name that pops into 95% of MFKers minds. You set the bar so high that some of us are gonna go broke trying to get some pups worthy enough to not stick out like an ugly duckling when pics are posted in the same thread as yours. :nilly:

I'd like to know more about your water parameters.... Do you use straight tap water? Or tap/RO mix? What are the parameters? PH, KH, total alkalinity? In your opinion is it best for breeding to just pair rays of or keep them in a large group?

Well thankyou also sir !
To be fair theres some incredibly nice Marbles of much quality been posted on the forum over the last few months, some of which i would be more than happy to have in my collection.
Its a very long time since i put a test kit to my water,i believe in regular waterchanges to help keep the water quality at an optimum. This incidentally stimulates the male to start vibrating the disc of the female,it happens almost every time i carry out a change, where as the drip system sounds very appealing and and labour saving its this drop in temperature that stimulates so many Amazonian species of fish to breed......a point worth thinking about, its worked for me.What i always do is have a basket of coral gravel in every tank, this raises the KH so helps maintain Ph during nitrification, ive lost some cracking rays in the early days because of Ph crash and ignorance, the water in my area has a very low mineral content.......simple often works best.
My Ph was between 7.2 and 7.5 the last time i checked, when you have kept rays over the last 35 years you tend to know when things arent right by their mannerisms, generally if you keep the water good they rarely succumb to any problems.

Many thanks again!

In order to keep this thread discussion-based, I'm sure Alan would not mind we create a sister thread with photos of individuals' Top marbleds in their collection to compliment this discussion of marbleds, their quality, and equivocal compensatory attachments.

Its all a matter of personal opinion. Also keep in mind that pictures dont do most fish or rays any justice! :irked:

Thou I was once offered 2K for mine and still said no - lol :screwy::nilly:

Post it up J!!!....Use the other thread though:grinno:

I guess another relative question that can be asked is who actually has paid a relatively (more than usual) large sum of money for a marbled motoro and what type of quality was the ray?

Another thing I hate is this ROYAL AAA KING SUPER MEGA SUPREME MARBLE naming madness!!!!

That's why I say it should just be priced by individual fish and aesthetics. There is no catch all for marbleds because of their vast variation but people try to use names to create quality brackets. Just charge what you will for the fish and if it is worth it to someone, they will buy it...regardless of price!

Strickly eye of the beholder. It depends which style you like.

For Blondes probobly Gr8s, although I think my lil lady could rival lol :WHOA:

For the "Pearl" style Duckman's lady. Pat's old female was very impressive when I saw her years ago though.....

For the "Pale ale" style Shawn's (MNstingray) female

Gr8's is the only truley impressive male I've seen over here though.

But we all know there's some out there we haven't been exposed to. I know Mike has some crazy nice ones hiding somewhere.

My most expensive to date is a bit over $700. It sits in the middle of my collection in terms of quality. Paid more than "usual" for a bunch of mine.
My answer will change very soon though.... Just have to sell off some very fancy Morays, AND several rays to get her here. :screwy:
