MARBLED/CALICO CONVICT BREEDERS - INFO / GENETICS THREAD

Here are a couple of new pictures of my male in breeding color. I have him on a new food, it's only been five days but it appears to be doing some good. I know some of you will scream that this is an HRP hybrid. I choose to think he is just a good quality fish. Genetics is everything. He is soon to be Doomie's...

I agree he is a very good looking specimen. Thanks for the response Krusty. I actually saved the light and transparent ones(about 3) I had but there are about 45 left and they are within the bunch. I might have lost them and dont even know. They are all starting to color up. I have a month old update of them on the tube. At 2 months I should be able to see some differences if any. If they turn out to be unique I will post them. Im going to breed this pair until they produce me a BAMBAM! That is one great looking male!

I have worked with the marble gene but in a different way. I have spent a few years playing around crossing the marble convict with honduras red point & leucistic hrp.

The goal was to increase the color in the fish along with a higher contrast in the black & white of the body. Regular marble cons have more of a pink color to them and not

white. I have also made short bodied marble cons as well. You learn a lot about genetics with each experiment you do.

Please post only if you have firsthand experience with breeding Marbled / Calico convicts, either directly, or observed.

Is there a such thing as a Black/White Marbled Convict? (Must provide a photo.)

It amazes me that after 1.5 years no one ever bothered to dig up a photo of what was asked for ;)

Here's a couple videos that are suggestive of what you're looking for:

Nevermind this much earlier thread on MFK from 2009 showing what clearly appears to be a Marble that is not expressing "pink" http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?241295-Marble-Convict-!-!/page2

This longfin Marble Convict also *might* be simply "marble" and not "marble + pink" aka. what I think we're all calling "calico". http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?315721-Update-on-marble-convict

It seems like so many folks have come close to unlocking the genetic secrets of these aquarium "rabbits"...but still..no one has come back with the definitive, clinching proofs?
