Marbles' new tankmate. Odd dentured fello

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Obviously this needs some clearing up.

I was told it had been in FW for close to a year. I asked several times.

Check fishbase they say FW as well. Maybe someone should enlighten them about how thier information is garbage?

Not like I put the thing in a ph below 8. Our water is like liquid rock here. I asked on several occasions about experience with these things and I didn't get ANY decent info.

Are we just running off at the mouth here about G.Tiles?

I helped ID this thing when it was imported. Everyone talks about how they've kept them before..... IF they're so common why did Reef Central even have a hard time IDing?

Brackish dude is the only one that appears to acknowledge it NOT being a Tile, despite me making it clear in the beginning of the thread that it was NOT a Tile.

Where were all you Moray experts when I inquired about this thing to begin with? Where the heck were you guys when no one knew WTF it was without any clues?

Enjoy your hindsight, and go find some Moray newbs to "enlighten". IF you think this is my first venture with Morays you really don't know me very well.

Anyone wanna agree with this?

Haha, there were morethan just one questioning it being in fw. I brought up tile because it looks similar, not identical, and like I said, unaware of ANY true freshwater eel, making this no exception.

What we had was a case of a popular member doing something, so the following agreed and cheered on. Me on the other hand, was the jack ass for questioning the fact that it was in fw.

It had died because of bad luck..... Where if it had been a new member, they would've gotten flamed first for having it w rays to begin w and secondly it being in fw. Then after the eel died it would've been a case of " I told ya so". But since you're an established member w a lot of posts, it's a different story

Anyone wanna agree to that? Probably not because people somehow see this site as realistic pecking order are scared to go against the grain in fear of being hated by the "experts"

Look man, you want to eat your words?

Ask Li (the man in charge of this site) how his gymnothorax polyuranodon are. The ones that have been in fresh since Wes AKA Fugupuff imported them for him several years ago. How's that for an exception?

You see the eel I bought from Wes was caught in FW. The same one that was in fresh for almost a year before I purchased it.

If you don't believe me, or Wes, or fishbase that's fine, argue away. I'd rather try, fail, and be proved wrong, then be another one of the masses.

I found this place by thinking outside the realm of a normal fishkeeper I'm not going to change that.

Eat my words? I questioned it and got laughed at by you. I guess I find it funny that you were a jerk about the whole situation and acted like everyone was a complete brain dead idiot for questioning about it living in fw and then the thing dies. Guess that's karma.

By the way, how long is several years? 3-5 yrs? Prob not thee tire life expectancy of the species. I had an Oscar that lived in a 20l for 3-4 yrs when I was kid lol

Speaking of G Tile, they are usually regarded as one of the BW fish that prefers greater salinity as they age. Some will swear that to do anything less is abusive at best, deadly more likely.

I have kept two in my tank, on separate occasions, for more than fiv e years. I've had my current one for almost eight yrs. Always been on the low end of salinity. I gave the first away because it just got too big for my tank and tankmates at the time.

Karma is a gr8 thing ;)

Well I sure learned a lot from this thread.

Next time I think along unconventional lines I'll keep it to myself.

I think I've recieved enough "feedback"

Feel free to lock/close/delete this thread.

Sincerely, the OP.

Feeling the tank! I just wouldnt put my hand anywhere near that eel lOl

lol.... You should see the saltwater tank in the other room where Mr. Nibblez resides.....

Yeah it's an old thread but maybe everybody scooping up the supposed FW eels should start reading threads like this before they buy and then whine and cry when the eel dies.

I was going to get a Gymnothorax Polyuranodon but now that I seen another example of the big fail in FW, I guess I will have to pass. No wonder you don't see to any progression threads on these eels...It's plain and simple they don't survive in freshwater.
