Yes, but it doesn't exactly work like most initially assume and fear. Recognition of blood in water is built into their primal senses, but they are not mindless eating machines, and do have the ability to distinguish the "smells" of blood. Sensing Blood, hearing and feeling vibrations from the source, sight, and of course taste is how they recognize their prey. Most sharks infact are quite picky as to what they will even sample, let alone consume. It will draw their attention yes, but it won't guarantee a bite. I have cut myself while cleaning displays before, and at home in the lagoon, and yes, you notice an increased awareness in the sharks within a few moments, but I have never been attacked or bitten because I was bleeding. Of course I didn't just hang out and wave my wound around to to encourage it either, but nevertheless, it was not something I was all too concerned about.

Have you ever dosed your tank with a supplement and accidentally dropped the entire bottle into the tank?

nope but i did accidently tip 19,000litres worth of de chlor fer 4500 litres.

hay waterbaby so say i was to stick my arm into saltwater and feel like stings/itches at certain points but not develop rashes maybe a slight itch is that an indication that i am allergic to something in the wtaer?

Water_baby83 Response:
That's an indication that you have a sensitivity to saltwater as a whole, more likely to do with the salt than an additive. Ever been to Seaworld (or similar location) and been drenched by a breeching Orca - you will hear people all over complaining about it burning their skin and itching. If you have this sensitivity, it can be quite uncomfortable especially if you keep salt tanks that require you to expose yourself to it. My best advice is to limit your skin contact with the water, look into purchasing gloves (easy to find, rubber hand with usually a nylon or similar fabric arm, secured by an elastic band that rests mid bicept). And if you have to expose your bare skin to it, make sure you wash the area that will be in the water with a mild soap, and after rinsing, run COLD water over your skin (this closes your pores temporarily, limiting absorbtion), and rinse again with COLD water immediately after you are done. Using warm or hot water to rinse with opens your pores, increases blood flow, and will encourage irritation to sensitive skin. It's more common than you think, so don't worry. If you ever do develop burns or rashes, see your physician becuse it may be a more specific allergy. Hope this helps!
