I've got a background in both martial arts and medicine. Yeah most likly it the outward force of the spin both stretching your joints and forcing the blood out there. It's sting for a bit but unless your cardiovascular system is shot not harm done.

I'll go with the above posters and say you want to spin on the ball not the heel. Too easy to rock forward and plant your toes. This will stop the foot but not the torso. Then it will really hurt and not the good kind of pain.

You think 28 is too late to start training?
My previous instructor started Kung Fu over 30 which staying at home as a parent. She's (yes she) looks like she is 16 (at 40). My current instructor (who will be killing me for missing a few weeks) has been doing it since his time in Spetz Natz 30 years ago. He's lot scarier than her but he limps everywhere since his knees are shot. Start easy and don't think about competition at first. Rushing to competative fighting gets you hurt fast and at 28 you heal much slower than 18.

bjj is where its at i have rolled hard with guys who were 56 years old!

WOW! Weird thread. We got a lot of armchair ninjas on MFK. Right on.

i think there are only 2 or 3 arts that will help you in a real fight. i'd do bjj, muay thai/kickboxing and boxing. all the other stuff is only for competition where there are rules and points and things like that

I'd love to do bjj. "I am a shark, the ground is my ocean, and most people can't even swim." -Rickson Gracie

marco ruas? that's dope. I'd love to meet him.

I've met Babalu and Mark Hunt. Also big John and seen others from a distance. I went to the second Pride event in the U.S. held in Vegas

I would disagree, Combat Sambo has application in a real fight. Though those school are a bit harder to find in the states.

Though I've heard the argument that since combat arts like Sambo and Krav Maga (sp) are mixed martial arts they are in a separate category.

Thats not 100% true. There are other styles that help. I used to be an avid praticitioner of Tae kwon doe(for nearly 10 years) and it is very use full in an actual fight.

I guess. sambo is good got some brutal leg locks tkd ehh im sure it would work against someone who hasnt had any training before

Leg locks are not generally taught as part of combat Sambo, that's sport/competition Sambo. There are all sort of freaking unpleasant (you experience them first) pressure points and joint locks that will halt any opponent.
