dont worry youll eventually get it

are you running CO2? if so, are you sure your tank is properly oxygenated for the fish?

might want to back-off on the Flourish because of the algae bloom, but at the same time you might want to add Flourish Potassium to prevent the "melt" you said you were seeing

regarding the betta, I would think it unwise to keep a betta with an angelfish; have you noticed any harssment of the betta?

last comment: flourite is a great plant substrate, but yeah, every time you rearrange the plants, it will stir up some dust . . . not pretty, but shouldn't be harmful

Okay, so I checked the water parameters two days ago:
pH: ~7.1-7.2
Ammonia: <.25
Nitrite: <.25
Temp: Varies between 77-78 F.

Yeah, so everything looked close to perfect, but that same morning I lost my betta. A couple hours ago there was an otto that was lying on the floor sideways, but was still breathing, so I left him there but now I can't find him. My cory now mainly resides in the far back right corner of the tank (same place my betta did before it died). I treated my water after my last post with some algae destroyer liquid and it worked alright. Water is clear again, but there is still this brown dust that resides on almost everything in the tank. I don't know if it is sediment from the flourite or the infamous brown algae. My plants still have minor melting issues, and my amazon sword has some leaves that are browning and fading. I have had my DIY C02 generator going at a steady pace and to counteract that I placed an airpump that pumps air slowly, almost as slow as my co2.

So my question is: why do my fish keep dying?

dude!! sounds like ur tank is going through a mini cycle!

also corys like to be kept in schools 3 or more.. i think..

use the flourish.. it doesn't contain nitrogen or phosphors so u wont get major algae problems from it. plus all plants benefit from having extra nutrients in the water column...

the key here is to experiment and see what works for u!!! don't feel like u have screwed ur tank! its a learning process!! u should make mistakes, then know better after.

A mini cycle? Yeah, I heard corys like to be in groups of 3 or more too, but I've had this guy since my first tank (i accidently used him to cycle my first tank). He's definitely my fav fish i've ever had. however, I'm afraid of getting more since whenever my cory moves (like literally moves in any direction) he kicks up a bunch of debris and makes that fast-moving-car-on-dirt effect. I'm afraid that if I get more, they will kick up a lot more of debris and keep clouding my tank or uproot my Glossostigma.

I also had a question. What do you guys think about topping the flourite with like an inch of pool filter sand? Would you recommend that? I like the look of it better and my Glossostigma like to be almost completely buried and I can't do that with less than an inch of flourite. The only problem I can think of is water won't be able to flow freely through the substrate and will block the flow of nutrients. What do you guys think? Cause I just don't have the money to buy another pack of flourite.
