+1 the tank is way to small already and so far he has said he has no plans on upgrading to the 1000g+ it will eventually need nor do I think he will

I have always kept my MBU with other fish (spotted puffer, fire eel and 2 barracudas) and they have been fine but recently ive added a rope fish - he bit his head off, a expensive tiginus - bit its tail off (dead now) and now im really scared hes going to eat all the other fish. Im feeding him 4 mussels and a cockle a day (enough?). I spoke to a fish keeper and he said the same happend to him, he tried keeping all sorts of fish but the MBU wasnt having any of it and killed them all but he was told to put another MBU in the tank the same size and try that in with him and it worked!, he said it worked becouse MBUs never attack each other unless there in heat ???.
HELP!!!
i think if they have been raised with com fish maybe thay alright, i had mine about 3 4 mounths hes fine but my LFS always housed them in com tanks the odd one will chunk a pleco or cory sometimes but however mines alright, how big is your mbu?

He will, with out a doubt, kill everything in that tank.Sounds to me like you got yourself a typical "pissed off MBU". He or she is just in to killing stuff.Fish do that sometimes. Especially with puffers.Sometimes they just kill and don't even eat whatever it is they killed but it got too close to them or who knows? Some people get lucky and can have tank mates but most dont.Sorry.Survival of the fittest comes in also, especially as it grows and out grows its tank.

Well its a risk and I think you know that. I too have a 16" MBU in a community setting. Mine is most active when he's hungry. Just 4 mussles and a cockle a day would not satisfy my MBU. I feed him till he stops eating then he just mostly sits on the bottom. I did suspect him of biting my Bichirs tails not on purpose just cause there on the bottom and when the Bichirs move around they put there tails right into the MBU mouth which I thought is why they were getting bit. But after I moved all the Bichirs to there own tank I notice they were biting each other. It is a risk to keep MBU with other fish cause of there potential to inflict serious damage. Every morning I open the lights with a little cringe I might find a dead fish. But so far I guess I been lucky...

What have you done to remedy the situation? Have you moved the mbu into a larger tank? Have you gotten the other fish out? Have you set up a separate brackish tank for the GSP?

I have said my opinion about tank size for my MBU many times, and many others think that a tank size of 150cm x 70cm x 50cm is fine for a fish which would rarley reach 2ft, he has not touched any of the other fish apart from the two new arrivals which he may of thought were food and the GSP has has been fine in there for years with no problems what so ever.

The only reason a fish would not reach their wild counterpart's size (or larger) is because of poor housing. Go ahead & listen to those folks then... :(

they can easily get 3 feet in aquaria, if it's reaching 2ft that means you have stunted your fish. You havn't learned a thing so don't ask for help when you don't listen if you have a closed mind to fish keeping then theres no point in wondering why your fish is acting weird or in the future, dying...

Firstly, you have got your facts completly wrong! MBUs dont get to 36inchs in a aquaria, no were near. the max size of a MBU is 26inchs! but more likely less. And a mbu at 2ft is a well raised fish as 2ft is normal size expected!!!
