You are taking bad advice from improper fishkeepers, because it's what you want to hear.
Here is an article from a man who has been keeping puffers for >50 years:

Here is an article of a puffer's slow death in a 180g tank:

You have said this before and there was no reason to post this again.
Even you said a MBUs max size is 26inch.
These so called "improper fishkeepers" have given me good advice which has worked.

I'm curious how long they kept their mbus in tanks that size? Did they grow to their max size? Was their caudal fin spread out or bent? Did they live into their late teens?

You have asked this question before, and yes they are selling big MBUs, up to 22inch

But why are they selling them, instead of keeping them? Maybe because they can't house them properly? Did they raise them from juvies or purchase them from the wild that large?

I read hundreds of posts & can't remember all the details of all of them.

Firstly, you have got your facts completly wrong! MBUs dont get to 36inchs in a aquaria, no were near. the max size of a MBU is 26inchs! but more likely less. And a mbu at 2ft is a well raised fish as 2ft is normal size expected!!!

um no, 26" is not a full grown mbu, it is stunted if it only hits 26"
here are a couple sites saying the max size in aquaria. I hope you arn't as irisponsible as you seem and can learn from this and get it a better home.

Of course, this is your tank & your fish but isn't the reason we are in this hobby to keep our pets as healthy & long-lived as possible? Otherwise, why take them out of the wild? Just for entertainment? The fish will be stunted, can and will deform his caudal fin. However, death will probably come before stunting and deformation from a tank unable to handle the bioload.

First of all, this "stunted" word seems to be taken from the puffer forum and spread all over this forum. Secondly a 26inch mbu is NOT stunted, IT IS THERE NORMAL GROWTH!. Most the sites you have put up are opinions, not facts. And the "seriously fish" website even states they dont get to 36inchs, not even 30inchs!.
