MBU eating everyone!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The measurements for a MBU should say 26 inches +. I am not sure about a MBU reaching 36 inches. However, I feel that the 36 inch measurement probably includes some of the caudal fin.

That being said, either way 26 or 36. Your tank is too small. In a tank that size your are risking deforming the caudal fin, a common occurrence for MBUs in too small tanks.

I must ask, why do you not want to upgrade to a bigger tank? And why do you not want to provide a separate brackish tank for the GSP?

I would think setting up a bigger tank for the MBU and learning to create a brackish tank would be exciting and would show off you skills and commitment to fish keeping.

I can understand not having room for 1,000 gallons, but why not at least go with a tank size in which the MBUs caudal fin would not become deformed. Could you not go up at least to 300-400?

Hi purplecandle
As i have said before my MBU is fine at the moment, when he does reach a size when he starts getting stressed i will move him.
I have now taken the advise about the green spotted puffer, i brought a 45g tank for him.

That is a great size for a single GSP to go to high brackish in!!! 30 gallons is the minimum, but I think the need more.

I would not wait too long on the MBU, by the time you see stress damage could already be done.

Have you thought of building a tank for him yourself? Save some $$$.

Building a tank?

YES!!! You can build your own monster tank!! Usually for cheaper than buying a monster tank!!.

You can look on this forum in the DIY section, or use google to look for blueprints if you need them.

Several of the members of this website pride themselves on building their own monster tanks.

Wait, I just read another one of your posts where you said, your MBU had stopped growing after 2 years at 18 inches??????

Why then are you arguing with knowledgeable people on this site about the size of what a MBU should be. Your own is stunted!

First of all, this "stunted" word seems to be taken from the puffer forum and spread all over this forum. Secondly a 26inch mbu is NOT stunted, IT IS THERE NORMAL GROWTH!. Most the sites you have put up are opinions, not facts. And the "seriously fish" website even states they dont get to 36inchs, not even 30inchs!.

Theres a lot more websits the state the same thing. Puffer punk, what do you think the average size of a MBU is?
I don't get it... you just posted up 6 sites that stated the mbu gets 26-36" (Which may or may not be measuring the tail in each of these) & many that state 1000g is the min tank size. So your saying... you're wrong???

More than once he/she has posted links that disagree with what he is saying.

I am confused on this one. Maybe he s just arguing to justify his own stunted MBU|????
