Mbu not growing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A 4-5inch fish does not need a 300gallon tank, maybe when its older but it will take a few years for that. There are NO facts in this, its opinions and most people have the opinion of MBUs need 300-500g tank which i agree with. I actually have owned 3 MBUs and currently own one now at 21inchs. Hes in a 300g and fine and will be for the rest of his life. You say i need to do my research but i have kept fish for 13years and kept MBUs up to 23inchs. The advise your giving is all off the puffer forum.
Give advice when you have experiance.

I feel bad for your Mbu then. You would think after "owning 3 mbus and currently owning one now at 21 inches" that you have learned a little about how to PROPERLY house it. But it's vvery obvious you don't. I don't understand why people sell these fish to just anyone since the majority of the people can't house them properly. How'd you like to be locked up in a cell for your whole life? I'm done talking to you don't even bother responding or you'll just get ignored from here on out.

My MBUs fine and thriving in the tank. I know much more than than you as you have never kept one.
And you say i got owned? when? my point is just as vaild as pufferpunks but not yours as your just copying what other people say and trying to start an argument. I see you didn't reply to this?????

You just said "I advise the OP to listen to EVERYBODY not just PP" but in your last post you said "Listen to PufferPunk as she knows more about Puffers then probably anyone on this site".

My tank is 70 inches x 40 inches x 34 inch with a 21inch MBU. YOU DO THE MATHS!!!!

ive seen these arguements in loads of puffer threads, puffer punk has got called out on her 'facts' before.
heres the thread http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?402217-The-Hypocrite-thread-mbu
Their are some really valid arguements in the above thread as to why a Mbu does not need a 1000g tank.
this guru she keeps spouting on about was shown to have kept puffers in tanks which were too small.
heres the specific piece about 1000 gallons

'Robert T Ricketts wrote that article after a failed attempt at trying to keep a mbu long term in a 180 gallon tank. After his single experience with attempting to keep his mbu in a 180 gallon tank, he made a post about what he personally felt the fish truly required (1,000 gallons) which has then been repeated over & over & over again ad nauseum.

Stuart Morse later echoes the same sentiments in his article on Mbu, after his failed attempt at raising his Mbu in a 100 gallon tank. (400 litres to be precise)

And Pufferpunk, while you may not have originally come up with that number, you have probably repeated it more times than anyone else. '

Pufferpunk i know your only trying to help but you have to acknowledge that actual experiance in keeping a fish has to be worth more than your assumptions.
what makes it worse is that your conviction that this guy is all knowing on the subject of puffers has created a whole section of people who constantly give peope abuse about their tank size without the benefit of any actual experiance.
surely Andrex with 20 yrs plus experiance in keeping Mbu shouldnt have to fend off criticism from a Mbu newbie on some moral crusade fueled by what is effectively guesswork by someone who has never kept them.
that is all, rant over lol

I had a 3" mbu that I put in a 180 gallon planted tank. He was hand feed spectrum pellets, clams on the half shell and market shrimp. He only lived 15 months and only grew to about 4.5" my local fish store told me that he may have had a health problem and the only reason he made it that long was the care I gave him. I dont think any one can argue a 6'x2'x2' tank is to small for a 3" of 4" fish. The fact that it was planted and over filtered (3 FX5s) and biweekly water changes should tell you it was taken care of. In my opinon and that of my local fish store he was not well from the begining.

Couldn't of said more right, he shouldn't of got involved.

Well considering it's a PUBLIC forum anybody can get involved. It's ok tho one day you'll get over it I promise.

Yer its a puplic forum but your writing stuff you dont know about and trying to sound knowledgeable when really your just copying pufferpunk. When you keep a MBU you can talk about there needs and a chat more about tank size.

I change 50% every week. I was mistaken about the nitrate: it is always <20ppm, most likely <10ppm. I only test the water every month or so because I change the water religiously. The mbu is not skinny and has normal feces. He does go from a completely round belly to flat belly within a few hours of eating his meal. Sometimes, he looks hungry, begs for food, but won't eat it. Would a round of prazipro be okay just in case hem has IPs?
