Oxycontin is not used for your average aches and pains. It is used for people with chronic and/or terminal pain and illness. The bad rap that OxyContin gets is that it is severely abused by recreational drug users. I agree, it's one of the most addicting drugs out there. Used properly it effectively controls pain but used improperly, it destroys lives. If you want to argue the lesser of two evils, go ahead, but everybody loses in the case of drug abuse.

'Medical marijuana is usually used for terminally ill people with on-going unbearable pain usually due to incurable circumstances, I think marijuana gets its bad name from "The gateway drug" scapegoat. If people would take responsibility for their actions they would realize marijuana doesn't MAKE you do other drugs, and is not a gateway drug. You MAKE your own decisions. Used properly marijuana helps ease all of the pain from the people who legally use it. I believe that marijuana can help people, even if it is only one person and not yourself, think of the others that can benefit.

Ok, here is what I witnessed about pot 2 years ago. My Father in law was diagnosed with cancer. Had surgerys, chemo, radiation and all that they could do to keep Him alive. He was always sick, throwing up, not hungry, and getting extreamly skinny. All the drugs they gave Him did not work very well. Now He was against pot, never smoked it, only drank an ocassional beer. His friend showed up one day and talked Him into smoking some. The first time He tried it, he laughed for the first time in months, ate a bowl of corn flakes and went to bed. Next day He felt great, had some food in Him. Tried smoking some more, We barbaqued that day and He ate half a steak. This contiued for a few months till He died :( While on His death bed, we talked about "medical Marijuana" We all agreed that it did have a place, and should be legal. It did not save Him, but made His passing much better and easier.

RIP Steve Lewis 62 years Young :(

Perfect timing GJC, Theres the one person that can benefit!

Honestly, I don't care what a person does individually. Pot is easy to procure, and doesn't need to be legalized to be used. I especially don't care what a terminally ill patient does. They have the right to live out the remainder of their lives any way they want. I seriously doubt a cop would write a ticket to a cancer patient, just don't get high and drive around in your car. What I can't stand is the people that are promoting this that don't have cancer, but are using this issue to promote pot use recreationally. It has never killed anyone in 10,000 years of recorded use blah blah blah. If pot makes your life that much better then fine, get high. Just don't promote it to the rest of us.

And I agree with You :) For the most part.

The two most deadly drugs in the world are two that are legal in the U.S. and available at nearly every street corner in the nation, alcohol and tobacco. Tobacco accounts for over 400,000 deaths a year in the U.S. while alcohol is responsible for over 150,000 NOT INCLUDING 50% OF ALL HIGHWAY DEATHS AND 65% OF ALL MURDERS.

and you're worried about a bunch of people being happy, hungry, and sleepy as opposed to slow, docile, and often violent? I don't know about you but even when children are taken into consideration wouldn't you prefer they grow up in a world where more people around them are stoned than drunk? Now I KNOW you wouldn't be inclined to say you choose the drunken mob over the circle of 'left wing hippies' sitting Indian style having a peace pipe session as a more commonplace surrounding for your children.

Even for the case of recreational use marijuana is a safer choice than alcohol AND it is proven marijuana users have the same or lower incidence of highway deaths, murders, and accidents than the NON-USING marijuana population as a whole.

Whether or not I use the substance is irrelevant (and to most at this point would seem like a dumb question), the point is I and thousands of others can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that marijuana should be legalized. Hell, the DEA's own conservative judge Francis Young even declared that it is safer than WATER. YES! WATER. It is humanly possible to die from drinking too much water but there will never be an instance when a human being will be able to smoke 1,500 pounds of ganja in 15 minutes to induce a lethal response.

If you think it's possible well, set up a study and call me if you need a guinea pig:D

Good for you! Promote your pot and let everyone be high! I am glad you are signing your name on a cause that really benefits the world. In truth, you are only promoting this for yourself. Why do you need to have pot legalized when it is so easy to get? Get high, I don't care. You must be stoned out of your gourd to compare the health effects of pot and water. I agree, water is very dangerous. Just be sure not to stick your head in a bucket full of it the next time you are baked. Pot definitely won't kill you, just make your logic disappear.

No, marijuana is illegal because it serves no useful purpose and makes people stupid. Just because it won't kill you doesn't mean it won't have adverse effects on your life, and I don't mean your health. If you want to continue to believe that marijuana is a proper treatment for a disease just to promote your belief that it is harmless so you won't get busted for getting high, go ahead. Medically it is an argument without substance, simply brought by the left wing hippies that think if there is any possible positive use for this plant, then it should be OK to do whatever I want with it. Honestly, I don't care if you use drugs, I did so myself at one time. I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home, just don't expect me to pay you respect for spewing your pro-pot message in public.

No useful purpose???

Your own words have brought down your argument against it for me.

Every single study that deemed marijuana as harmful was later to be found inconclusive in the follow up study. MEANING, never in the history of cannabis has there been a case in which a study found marijuana to be harmful or pose any negative effects that has been verified by a second study. Those studies were funded by the federal government (imagine that) and the follow up studies were funded through private parties (meaning citizens who have paid out of their own pocket to further the knowledge of cannabis).

Things like TV, misinformation (such as the lies told about weed), and hundreds of other things encountered in daily life make kids way more unintelligent than a lifetime of smoking marijuana ever could.

And by the way, go post your BS on a pothead forum. There are teenagers that come to this site for information about fish, not disinformation on the benefits of drug use. You probably are a teenager that read on a pothead website that pot won't kill you. We already know that, and don't care.

Yes that is right. Where is your study that shows it makes you smarter? Or that it will make you more successful? Or that it contains Vitamin C? Is there a benefit to healthy people at all? NO. I would say that makes it useless. Why can't you sit in your closet and get high as hell without pushing your pot religion on the general public? Worship the green, and Jerry Garcia, and Willie Nelson, but keep that crap to yourself. THIS IS NOT A POTHEAD FORUM.
