Mega Mess... But what's to blame?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi! I just saw your album and I was looking at the seams that were broken. I was just about to say what gomezladdams above said. It looks like they didn't even bond the seams. it looks like they did a crap job (i.e. only using a silicone-like material to join the acrylic sheets).

If the manufacturer said that the tank was bonded etc., and/or will not help you out by replacing the tank etc., you might want to consider hiring an attorney (talk to insurance about this maybe?). If you can prove that the tank wasn't up to par with the manufacterer and they are being negligent and not rectifying the situation you probably need to go to court.

Now, I have no idea how that works out. Because I think insurance will handle that for you (i.e. dealing with the manufacturer, court, lawsuits). Right?

Yeah, it looks like a total inept building job. What's with the stack of 3 panes together? Did you stack them like that or did they stack three thinner panes together instead of using the proper gauge plastic? If they did that and they used silicon then they screwed up two of the biggest tank building factors.

I would leave them off your x-mas card list.

you can see in the pictures before we moved the tank that it was level. i checked it more spots than i took pictures of. each place the tank hadn't changed. Shouldn't have since my stand was built using 22 uprights as well as 2x6's and 3/4 plywood. That stand didn't even get fazed by the tank. I'm really paranoid about crap like this happening hence the reason for the overkill.
Did you measure diagonal level? The best way to check is to cross two level lines that are extended past the four corners of the stand. If you have a high/low corner you should be able to see it.

The only problem with the above procedure is that it is being done without a load. The stand and/or floor under load may deflect significantly.

Ya... I didn't measure how you said, I didnt' think of doing that, but a used a 4' level to go across everything, in the pictures I took the other half off cause our level was broken.

something awesome did come of the tank break, we're making plans for a "Monster" ray tank for my babies...

My Mantis was purchased at a LFS that specialized in different Mantis species. Personally a biocube 8 is a little small for most species of Mantis. You might be able to go with a green, but yes, they do hit the glass. The bottom is really what you need to worry about. To remedy that most people put a piece of acrylic on the bottom under the sand.
