Hi everybody,

I have my tank more than 2 months and I still can't get clear and nice water. I’m changing water every day 10-20%. I’m using EHEIM Sludge Extractor & Gravel Cleaner, 24" if bottom is not clean, and to clean pups. I'm thinking what is wrong, and maybe my filter is not good enough. I have MegaFlow 4 Wet/Dry Filter, only with standard items, nothing else. Mag Drive Pumps 950 gph. My tank is 180 gallons. The filter is up to 220-240 gallons. I know that with standard fish is enough but maybe not with Arowana.

What I should to do ? Add some filter bag to my MegaFlow 4 or add one more filter - if yes, what do you recommended ?

It looks that:

1. Overflow Bubble Chamber
Air is expelled to enhance quiet operation & enclosed
chamber reduces salt spray & maintenance
2. Filter Media Tray
Tray is removable & adapts to most media
3. Biological Media Chamber
Bio balls held above water line by molded media grate
to enhance biological filtration
4. Main Sump Reservoir
Large size allows user to add protein skimmers,
calcium reactors or fluidized chambers
5. Pump Chamber
Designed to accommodate most submersible pumps
6. Sump Cover
Reduces evaporation & helps quiet sump sound

Add some ceramic rings to the empty parts in your sump. What do you have in your top media tray? Wool or padding is good. I noticed on all my tanks it took 4 months for the water to get really clear. Give it some time.

Hey there I have the same setup - 180 with megaflow 4 only difference is I have a larger pump on my system but my water is almost perfectly clear unless they tend to stir up the bottom then I get some floating debris but it clears up fast. So from my experience the filter can handle the tank. You dont stte your bio-load so maybe like esse said you may need to add some rings or additional media to aid in that, and it also may just need a little more time to settle in. you could try a micron pad on the drip tray to catch all the fine particulate that may be floating around which I use for a day only after a water change then switch back to a standard pad for regular use. Hope it works out.

What are your water parameters, levels of ammonia, nitrite, nitrates. Considering you bioload that filter should be more then enough.

I have standard padding (blue one). Today I will change it, and add better one, and 2 or 3 layers.

Hi,

Ammonia - 0 ppm (mg/L)
Nitrite - 1.0 ppm (mg/L) (see picture, I'm not sure :) )
Nitrate - 0-5.0 pom (mg/L)
PH - 6.7/6.9
Temp - 82F

Thanks !

How long has your tank been set up? It appears you do not have a fully cycled tank. The cloudiness you are seeing are free floating bacteria. I would recommend increasing your water changes to get the nitrite levels under .25ppm anything higher is bad for your fish. You can also double dose with prime after the W/C make sure you dose for the entire tank.

You can look into some bottled bacteria, I've heard good things regarding "Stability" and "Bio Spira" but have never used them myself.

You may

Doesn't look fully cycled.
I would continue to monitor ammonia readings as it can be harmful.

Tank has been setup 2 months ago, but with Arowana 3 weeks. I'm sure that when I check water one month ago everything was perfect !

Thanks
