he's a baby. they aren't as piggy.
+1

when i got mine (at 0.5") it was hard to feed. it didnt really eat full meals until it hit around 3", and it was still hard to feed it. he didnt become a real pig til about 5". now hes 8" and eats everything, even tries his best to eat my fingers when he gets the chance.

lol. how do you get them to jump for food? what food should you use? I actually have a funny story. Everytime i go upstairs he comes to the front of the tank so I give him a pellet well I got tired of trying to open the bag everytime I went upstairs which is like 15 times a day.. so I took a few out and put them on the lid so I could just grab it and put it in easier. well instead of going after the one that was in there he repeatedly jumped at the ones sitting on my top lol, so I had to put them back in the bag anyways. theyre not safe anywhere out of the bag except on the tank because my cats will get them lol

natural tanks dont even need live plants.

how many times have you jumped into a lake with goggles and seen a sunken pirate ship? or palm trees? unless youre asleep, NEVER.
you see dirt, wood, plants growing ontop and between that, and rocks. and they are all scattered around and in no set order or placement. thats natural.

I know that but since I have sharks I wanted it to be like a sunken ship theme even if it isnt saltwater lol, I just wanted something different, not what everyone else does

he is still too young to encourage jumping really, i mean you can do it, but have patience.

And my cats try to eat my fish food too, so please dont keep it out ... plus it could get wet and start rotting. yuck.

mine began to jump at about 5"

but dont do it!!
it seems fun at first, but you NEVER want your fish to think that jumping is ok.
now every time i open the lid of the tank my arowana and oscar hit the surface to splash water everywhere, even when they arent hungry. and they jump over 6" out of the water to grab my fingers.
i really regret encouraging jumping and im still trying to find ways to teach them to not jump anymore.
plus they jump over the edge sometimes and hit the floor when the lid is opened, which is definately BAD.
so do yourself a favor and discourage jumping in your oscar

truth. good points here, you should listen, OP.

and if you chose to teach it to jump, do not under-estimate this fish. itll get BIG and very very strong. you may think "oh, its just a fish. no big deal", but when these guys are flying and are full grown, they could knock you onto your butt with ease. just a few things to keep in mind if you make the foolish choice to encourage jumping

They destroy plants unless they're hardy ones. I dont really want live plants because I dont want to have to take care of them not to mention having to leave my tank light on all day.. that and I have enough animals to care for I dont need something else to take care of lol. I just came home from work today and my dang cats put another hole in yet another bag of pellets I have.... im going to have to start putting them in my dresser..

BellyCrawler. Stfu. You raged over someone calling a fish mentally retarded. No, I'm not the one making this country look uneducated, it's called grow some hair on your balls.
