Then theirs the coffee pot, percolator, hooked up to a distillery, as a mineral extractor, fertilizer concentrator/ bio diesel fuel generator. Which will heat the aquarium, and completely recycle the system with pure H2O.
You just have to think like your a Swiss Robinson, on Mars.

I tried purigen but it only gonna last u couple month and u have to put in new ones. purigen is not cheap too. so I tried santa monica algae scrubber just set it up this Tuesday and see how will it will reduce.

DIY recirculating sulfur denitrator there is a really good thread on reef central. It worked great on my saltwater tank I would think it would work similarly on freshwater. It took a few weeks to cycle it but after that is was set and forget

Denitrate cant really be set up in an hob. It needs very low flow. The purigen will be fine in an hob

Purigen is rechargeable no need to replace. Ive had some for a couple of yrs.

Im curious about the santa monica. Pls let us know how it works out
