MFK'r on Craigslist

look you guys are over quoting what im saying, personally i could care less myself im just trying to show each side of the story....

How many people shop at a yard sale and turn around and sell that item(s) on ebay? They probably wouldn't be doing it if there wasn't profit involved. They took their time and money and invested in a "great deal" and turned it over for a profit.

Unless the seller from here specifically told the buyer that (s)he couldn't re-sell the item, why does it matter?

I mean seriously, there are far better things to be worried about. Are you the seller, is it affecting you in some way? If not, why are you so conscerned?

I am not being rude I seriosuly just don't see why it would bother you unless you were the seller and told the buyer this item is not for re-sale.

If thats what you believe thats fine. But don't expect the next man to abide by that motto.

Also assumptions lead to disappointment. I've personally never seen anyone specify that they were selling an item on here with intent for it to be charity. And if it was charity they wouldn't be selling it, they'd be giving it away without personal benefit. And as far as the friend thing goes, I treat every man woman and child with respect and dignity but friends and acquaintances are separately classified. If I go into an online forum that says MARKETPLACE, I treat that not much differently than if I went to a petshop, wholesaler, or any other acquaintance that I come by.

And if were all supposedly "friends" why has not one person on this website ever helped me move.

There is nothing wrong with fair and legal commerce but I don't treat friendships as business ventures. I understand there are a large number of members here but I see this place as a larger version of a fish club/society. There is a certain amount of generosity that usually exits with any type of community. Buying something under the guise that you need it and will use it takes advantage of that. If exploiting someone generosity is within your ethical code then that's with you.

If I buy something from a member to make a profit I could be taking it away from someone that has a genuine need for it and appreciates the discount. I take enough from this community is all the knowledge I've gained, I don't need to make a few bucks on top of it.

I agree with everything you have said, but some of us genuinely have friends on here.

great input boxerfish. goin back to the original point on whether it is ethically right to buy here and sell there. the only reason why people on here give deals is because they get deals. if nobody on mfk got a deal from anyone else on here, would they continually give out deals? no they wouldnt. so even though many try and define their motives as altruistic, its really intruistic. everyone is selfish in their own way, just some are more than others. but everybody judged the guy without even knowing his motive. maybe he needed rent money, maybe he needed his fix, either way, you cant judge a mans heart cause you cant see it.

Maybe I am a bit old fashion but I believe in the saying "what goes around comes around" if you sell somethihg to anyone and your happy with the price that you got so be it..
If later on you see them selling the same item for more thats not your concern.
Lastly if someone makes a habit out of buying cheap from friends and selling higher
to anybody with the money then sooner or later they might have a problem getting those low prices,, just my thoughts...

It goes both ways, sometimes you see someone pick something up and toss up a thread about how great of a deal they got on it, but sooner or later down the road, they may want to sell it. Would you hold it against him/her for trying to sell it for what it's worth? I wouldn't and haven't. Any one thing is only as valuable as what someone is willing to pay for it. I've bought things on here that I know someone paid less for, but I was happy to pay what they wanted for it because it was worth it to me.

Like I said before, if you could sell something for more, but cut your buddy a deal, your buddy will be happy. If he turns around and sells it for a profit, you only have yourself to blame, if you choose to be sour about it.

I've gotten tanks for free. Does that mean I have to give them away when I don't want them anymore? I don't know how this deal went down, but that's between the two parties involved.

I think it's funny that people are equating buying something here to buying something off a buddy. To me, buying something off our marketplace is closer to CL than buying from a buddy...and without knowing the story behind the OP I'm guessing the transaction in question wasn't the "buying off a buddy" kind.

If not...yeah, if you get a deal on something from one of your boys and turn around and sell it for profit, yeah that's kind of shady. Not "wrong" exactly, and nothing to get in a twist over...but I wouldn't hook him up again, that's for sure.
