These are some of the many fish we have in the canal 5 min from my hubby (cichlaholics anonymous) and my house. Mayan is around 13" and the Midas/red devil? is around 5-6" . I also caught a 12-13" Managuense but didnt get a picture. We've been trying to catch smaller bass, managuenses and mayans for our tanks but no luck yet. We'll keep you posted ;) :headbang2

small hooks with mealworms will get the smaller fish to bite.

Great catch. The neat thing about the canals is that its cichlid territory not sunfish and pesky sunfish wont steal your bait.

I have noticed that cichlids hit Earthworms with relish. I just orderd more worms .

What bait did you use ?

lol I meant to write cichlids relish earthworms .

Yes they love gambusia I have a pond loaded with them all diff sizes some rather large but couldnt bring myself to use them.
I stocked the pond with them and floating plants simply to have a supply but in the end couldnt do it.

I am going to try doughballs thanks never thought of that.
