In the canals I go to I cant use cast nets would get caught in mats of anachris ,etc and not going in to get it lol .

I think they are illegal but either way for me impossible to use . The cichlids I have seen hug the side of the canals which is rocky .

The bigger cichlids like Peacock bass are in the middle but those I dont want .

I ordered more earthworms but untill than doughballs sound great

We actually went trying to catch smaller cichlids, but it is not feasible so we end up catching mayans, midas, jags, etc.

I've actually wanted to catch some black acaras which are supposed to be established here in florida, but don't know where to find them

The trick to doughballs is spitting a HUGE loogy on them after you roll them up. :P

The mayans, midas, jags are great I have only caught jags than let them go after taking fast pic.

To me South Florida wouldnt be worth fishing in if not for the cichlids lol. So the more the merrier hope they reproduce by drones.

I agree the small cichlids are impossible . They nible at the tiniest hook and take the bait and unlike other fish wont enter a minnow trap they are "smart" fish.

I have seen African cichlids in Kendal canals and canals by Florida University but impossible to catch

Thanks for the info going to use doughballs this weekend in new spot I want to try.

I have never seen acaras but if I do will let you know.
