Midas 1/7/09

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here he is a just 3 year old. I lost him last year at 6 he was 15". He was the largest midas I have ever seen. When I moved him home form the office you could hide a volleyball hbehind him. One mean fish. I spawned him to several female one was wild barred. Some of his from did dtayed barred. I attached pic of some of his sons.

Why would one sibling be barred and the other turn red? That is so weird. Thanks for posting the pic of him younger! I was curious what his nuchal looked like then.

I just bought a baby Midas/RD, about 3 1/2" and already has a nuchal!! So cool!

What do you feed you're Midas?

One or both of his parent's must of carried the recessive colored genes.

Hikari Massivore Delite, Hikari cichlid gold, Omega One, Dainichi, with the occasional nightcrawler and shrimp.

Love the colors, I always have a soft spot for Midas with the red face and yellow/orange bodies.

Do you still breed Midas? I stop breeding cause it's just too hard to get rid of them locally, even when offer for free.

I got a young male from Burtle's line that has same nice fins/tail patterns growing out right now.

I only breed for friends now. I keep one out of each spawn, I use the rest for food. Most of the Midas just swim in the pond and get fat. I will breed a solid yellow pair in the spring, and plan to send this female to Chris to spawn with his big white male.

Nice female

Nowadays if I breed, it's just for myself. Keep 5-6, grow them out and keep the best male.

I kept a yellow male Midas once before but it slowly turned orange as it ages, could of been the food?

Got any females that might match this guy? I would like to try to breed him once to keep his genes going.
