  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lovely fish cam. i like to think im doing the right thing by not breeding tubby because of unknown genetics.
i doubt she is gonna grow a hump elakoon, i would have seen a hump by now i would have thought.
here are some pics i took of tubby yesterday:

she is always hiding behind a piece of wood no matter how i decorate the tank, she also has a plant pot. she has only been like this for about a month. i removed the cons i had in with her because i notived a torn fin on her and found it was the little witch (1st con in the tank). she was picking on tubby, she was 2" and tubby is about 7". anyway her tankmates are as listed in my sig. she allows both to be around her and doesnt chase them off like she did the cons. she is a very calm midas and extremely tolerent.
any ideas why she may be hiding all the time??

I see that shes moved the gravel so it kind of just looks like her territory. I've never really had calm midas. I just give mine 80* water, lots of food and waterchanges and they all want to bite my hands and splash water at me.

lol mine wont even attack the gravel vac. she attacked the CAE but i think that was because it latched onto here. she has been very good with tankmates so far. as long as they leave her alone, stay out her corner and she gets first go at the food then she is calm. she doesnt even come out for food in the morning now, the wife is getting annoyed at having a large ish tank devoted to one fish and it never being out on show.

im wanting to upgrade again to a 5 or 6ft tank so i can add more largeish cichlids in but i think im gonna have to get stuff like uaru and chocolate cichlids because she is so meek. i was hoping for a female jag, a loisellei or female festae but i fear they may be too aggro for tubby to deal with and she may get even more reclusive.

everything is perfect, calm tankmates that pose no challenge to her. good water movement between a canister and a fluval 4+. adequate filtration, water perameters have never deviated from perfect levels. 25%+ water changes every 3-4 days. a good varied diet of hikari cichlid gold, frozen bloodworm, spirinula sticks, garlic and paprika bits, raw prawn/squid and earthworm sticks when i can get them.

its a little over a year since i got tubby now. since starting her on the NLS thera A I have noticed her colour is a bit bolder in particular her bars are very bold since NLS. she is around 9.5", cant get very close with the tape measure, here are some taken yesterday and today (my photo skills are improving too):

She's a beautiful fish! Has she become more outgoing since getting a little older? or are you still having issues with her hiding all the time?

thank you.
she is out almost all the time now. i think it was the convicts i had in, the biggest female con (1.5") seemed to be bullying her.
she watches what your doing when you move around the sitting room.
