wow that doesn't look good. I thought it was on the outside. Definitely time to whip out some meds.

In case it's bacterial, I've had good experience with amoxicillin before. Got some leftovers if you need some....I'll be on a short trip to SC in the next few days.

Thats what I couldn't figure out. I ventured a guess that it was Bacterial and I'm thinking I was wrong. I went with an Antibiotic and now I'm wishing I had gone the Fungal route and treated with API Fungal cure instead but at this point its too late to second guess myself. Sarah I really hope you're able to get a handle on this.

thanks drift wood, yeah im hoping the meds will work... Ok so here is the deal, i went to petco and petsmart and neither had the API fungal meds but petsmart had the jungle parasite clear and the Jungle fungus clear so i went ahead and bought both. which one would be better to use? the parasite clear has the acriflavine in it like you aquanero was saying to use, but the fungus clear doesnt, fungus clear has nitrofurazone, furazolidone, and potassium dichromate as its active ingredients. sooo i have done a big water change to get out most of the salt and have moved the pictus to the big tank just in case (fingers crossed they don't get their arses kicked) so am ready to medicate but which one do i use? im leaning towards using the fungus clear since its specifically designed for it but not sure since it has different active ingredients...

Sorry I wasn't logged on. I would go with the Fungus clear 1st.

thats ok and thats yeah im going to go dose the tank now then, he/she is still acting normal and digging and everything so hopefully that means he/she will recover quickly :)

SUCCESS! well at least i hope it is success, so this morning my midas' eye looked really gross, like it wasnt bulging as much anymore but the white over the iris was like coming out and hanging out of its eye and it looked horrible, but now im thinking that was just the meds killing off the fungus because now its gone and his eye isnt bulging out at all anymore though it is still cloudy, but the meds say to leave the tank alone for 4 days and then do a second dose after that if it is needed so i will give it a couple more days to see if it keeps getting better :)

Great news, I'm happy to hear he seems to be improving!

yeah his eye looks WAY better than it did just this morning so i hope it continues to improve and my little guy should be better by the end of the weekend :) i really hope he continues to improve, he/she is just now starting to show a very pretty red underneath his dark grey and stripes so i cant wait for him to peel to see how he turns out (his parents are the dirty looking/creamsicle type)

soooo its the 4th day of treatment and his eye is still a bit cloudy so im going to do a big water change and do another dose, he is eating a little better though so im still hopeful that it will heal well :) (just taking a little longer than i hoped but i can be patient if its what is best for him...)

ok so just wanted to update, tomorrow is going to be the 4th day of his second round of treatment and it doesnt say anything about doing a third round so i think im going to start with the parasite clear after a big water change tomorrow (do you guys suggest something else?), while it looks ALOT better than it did to begin with and its not protruding out at all anymore but its still a bit cloudy, he is acting normal and moving the sand all around the tank as usual though is being a bit weird about eating sometimes (sometimes he gobbles the pellets right up while other times he spits them out but hes not looking skinny or anything so im not really worried about that) you can see really well in the 1st and 3rd pics where i was talking about how the fungus came out of a little hole over his iris when i first medicated

oh and he is also now showing some frikin ich spots, but im thinking it must be because he is stressed from the medication or something because the 2 little jags in the tank aren't showing any spots at all, its possible there might have been a temp fluctuation though since i put the second divider in there and the heater is all the way on the other side of the last divider... (can i use salt in conjunction with the medications?

It could have been a combination of a fungal infection as a secondary to a bacterial infection. You could try round with a gram negative antibiotic. This is a tuff one to rid of.
