i have a midas thats around 8months old and he is only 5inches . i recently had to move him to a temporary 20G tank but it had cold water in it ( 72F) he also hasn't been eating much . i know this sounds very sad but he was only in this tank for a week and a half , im not a bad owner i had to remove him from my main tank ( 150G) because he was killing my Cons and severums. i was wondering if he will ever get up to 12 inches or will he remain small ? i doubt that he was stunt because the 20G is pretty big but im wondering if the cold temperature affected him ... he looks healthy . also would you choose a single male midas for a 150 or a tank with severums , cons, firemouths and jd ? extra info would be appreciated .

He definitely should be a lot bigger by now. How often are you performing water changes and what are you feeding him? You don't want to keep him in cold water for too long. It will suppress his appetite, growth, and can make him susceptible to Ick. Personally, I'd rather have a mix of suitable fish in a 150 more than having one lone fish.

+1

I wouldn't waste a 150 gal in a single Midas. They're great but they can live in a 75 gal for life, by themselves.

With a 150 gal you could try a few large, beautiful cichlids like 1 festae, 1 jag, 1 dempsey, 1 green terror and 1 vieja synspilum. Leave the convicts/firemouths for a 40 gal breeder.

if your gonna put the Midas alone do it in like a 75G

my only other tank is a 100 gallon , would that work ? if i only had one tank which would you choose the community with the cons , FM , jd and severum or a single male midas ?the 100 G has the adult cons and JDs so i can either get rid of them and put the midas is there or get rid of the midas :( i had him since he was 2.5 inches .

your midas looks great !! :D , could i have a pair of midas in my 100 ? or would that be pushing it ? my friend is also selling a female midas ( i will post pic in a sec) it looks way better than my male .... will the female get 10+ inches also ? will it also get a nuncal hump ?

Much appreciated.
Could be fine, but based on your male's aggression I would make sure to give the female cover. Do something similar to this set up in this video.

Make sure that you smooth out the sides of the decca pots or whatever you use. Just make sure the female has enough room to stay out of reach of the male comfortably. I use decca pots when breeding because they are smooth, cheap, and provide plenty of room for the female. Good Luck
