The male seems to be doing alot better. he changed from pale orange to a very bright orange with white spots , hes also eating like a pig lool . the only sad thing is..... he bullied my cons and forced them to flee there spawn and later ate the babies :( . i felt so bad but cons spawn alot and those babies would've died sooner or later ....
Mine attacked my convict male so hard that his swim bladder was damaged and the convict couldn't even swim straight anymore. Then the Midas ate all the convict fry. A day later the male convict was dead.

Cichlids aggressive nature is what attracts us to these fish.
We usually know what to expect when we buy them.

It's also a risk we take when housing smaller cichlids with larger ones.
What may seem like a "friendly" situation, can quickly turn ugly on any given day.
It's our responsibility to be prepared to take losses cause we can't watch our tanks 24/7 & be able to move any fish that may be in harms way.

I used to feel bad using fry as feeders, but in reality it happens in nature, so I let "nature take it's course".
I've had feeders survive from being a snack, I usually remove them when I see they were able to out smart my big guy.
IMO they deserve to live if they can survive.

lol yeah i actually have a pair of gold dempseys i am looking to rehome right now because i threw a bunch of fry into my tank to be feeders and these 2 survived and are now like 4in haha

First are you positive it is a male. Second the cold water would not stunt his growth. Also the fish in your photo does not look like midas they look like red devils.

Not true. Prolonged exposure to cold water will reduce the growth, life span, and health of warm water cichlids. In the Op's case, the fish was not in the 20 long enough for the cold water to cause it to be stunted.

150g for a single Midas is a waste. I also have a bit of a runt Midas myself a male who is almost 2 yrs old and only 10". He does however have a very easygoing personality compared to most and will allow tankmates.

It's worth a try.
I thought my male would destroy the dithers I have with him, so far so good.

i will post another pic of the female in a sec :D

i just wanted to say im soooo happy that i kept the midas . everytime i approach the tank hes swimming towards me biting at the glass :D its soo cool , it scares my little brother also so its kinda funny lol . the male changed from being all orange to orange with white marks, he also looks a little bigger. i've been feeding him 4-5 times daily. midas' are now my favourite cichlids if they had a little bit more colour im sure that more people would like em :P
