Midas not growing at all

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i owned leopard geckos and they said to buy crickets and keep them for a couple days but feed them lots of greens and sprinkle calcium (for the geckos) but oyu can find others for fish i bet, like when ppl make their own beefheart recipes they add things to fortify it. i used to get a dozen large crickets every week or every other week and feed them stuff called GUT LOAD for crickets for a couple days then toss them into the O. they love it. and it's good stuff too not just treats. yeah super worms are like large meal worms. meal worms work great also if that's all you can find i like to switch it up

If you believe that fish is 100% midas then you should be questioning your own research and knowledge of fish. Thats not a pure midas sorry. Face is way to short and snout/mouth protrudes too much outward. Pure midas at that size have much flatter and taller face's.
i,ve been keeping midas cichlids for 10 plus years they all dont look the same even if its pure oh but you should know that,i've got babies off midas i bred that you would't even think that they all came from the same batch,go to midascichlid gallery do some research, and as i stated the guy who breed these midas that ken davis gets them from has no red devil/midas hybrids he breeds all af the midas complex contact the source before you make your self sound and look stupid like you have all ready done.(pure midas at that size have much flatter and taller face's.):screwy:all fish dont grow the same, but with you being mr know it all you know that.

Any idea on the age of the fish?
Is it at all possible it's infact a well matured female? This "theory" may explain the lack of growth.

good call... very possible.

Definitely a male :-) His breeding tube is very easy to see, plus Ken confirmed it.

As far as his age, I think he said maybe 1 and a half years?

I'm a little suprised no-one else raised the subject.

I understand this Ken Davis bloke is well known and respected, in the hobby, throughout the states. But everyone makes mistakes once in a while.......

Anyway, just a thought.

Still a young fish then. Keep up the large, frequent waterchanges and he'll pump up with a little time.

Good to hear, thanks. :-)
And I know what you mean about the gender. I don't believe any Midas/RD sex unless it's done by venting or breeding tube.

P.S. Thanks for the info about the live foods, everyone!
