A ton of filtration isn't the answer to overstock, though. Adding another big cichlid is going to dump such a bio load in there, never mind the aggression factors mentioned above. You have caves and hiding places, which is good, but should your fish who were there first be forced into hiding? Like the others have said, that Midas is going to wreck everything. Oscars get too big, and besides, they're such tank wreckers that they will have all your caves and stuff turned upside down in a minute when they get large. I can't begin to tell you how many heaters and intake tubes I've lost to wayward Oscars.
I would make a different choice.

Any recommendations? btw i know i will run into that problem and i have everything weighed down(with fishing weights if that helps) and my heater and intake tube have a protective cage around them(Supposebly if that helps). also i do two to three WCs a week anyway just to keep my tank extra clear. would a red devil work?

I have a midevilxbloodparrot hybrid with a jack dempsey in my 75, about 5-6 inches each. I know its only a matter of time before he snaps(already bit a cuban cichlid in half in previous tank) So i would pass on either red devil, midas, oscar. I however agree with the above about a severum. Beautiful fish and not to agressive but can hold their own

im not that intesersted in sevs unless i can get ahold of a red spotted for a decent price($40 or less). but i will keep it in mind. in a different genre i was considering a red wolf fish( because their max size is 8") they look cool and they do well w/ large cichlids (so i've heard). any other recomentions. and thanks for the friendly advice.

Red wolf fish?

Why don't you just leave a running chain saw in your tank?? :) :)

I don't buy the compatibility angle given to this fish.

If I was you, i'd get rid of a number of my fish if you want a killer/monster tank. :)

my humble o.

Sounds to me you want a crazy agressive fish but having a hard time parting with your other fish. I would part with other fish or you will be taking parts of your dead fish out. I made mistakes but learned from them it's not cool makes u feel pretty bad
