Midas Spawn in 540 Gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So the midas pair has been real aggressive today. So i went look closer, and half the eggs are gone. they go from where the eggs were laid, to a hole right nearby, and back again. Are they moving the eggs to a new spot?
I think they're moving them, may do it again before they are wigglers. My convicts and jags both move the eggs a couple times prior to hatch, and usually once more before they're free swimming

SO WHAT DO I DO NOW????!! Do I need to feed the fry? What? All I have is NLS pellets and freeze dried krill. And how?

I got a video...

So I pulled the 20 gallon down outta the attic and set it up with a sponge filter that's been running in my sump for months.

I took a little more than half the fry out of my 540 with a net, put them in the 20 gallon. I'm just crushing up some Omega One flake and I put that in the 20. I couldn't really see the fry eating it, but the whole cloud would move and follow it down to the bottom. I guess that's good?

Is it too early to separate the fry from the parents? I figured they'd get eaten as soon as the lights go out tonight in the big tank tonight?

I put up another video.

They're spawning again now. What was cool a couple weeks ago is becoming a problem. I already have more fry than I know what to do with, and now they're making more?

Did you leave any of the fry from the first batch in the 540 gallon tank? I'd assume in a 540 gallon with the type of fish you have that none of the fry left would survive in the tank. Unless they are extraordinarily good parents that is..
