Midas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Jeff had a message on his website last week stating he would not be available for orders or emails for like 4 days during the holiday, I am sure he has lots to go through.

I would do dithers with the solo Midas. Barbs, SD, cats, plecos, even something like in the video (though I imagine you occasionally have to replace them. No?). Things that he's not likely to see as a threat/competition, are care free and fast/tough. And raise him with them.

why do you need dithers with a wet pet?

^^^In this case, I just meant non-aggressive tankmates. I like more movement in my tanks. But if the Midas were shy, they could still perform that task as well.

tangledupincichlids.com aka Jeff Rapps. Great guy, good service, and is probably the #1 American cichlid distributor. He has a sub-forum here as well where you can ask questions. I am pondering getting a female for my male when I upgrade to a 300g+. The smaller you get the Midas, the better the chance you can get a community Midas. Here is a video of my 125g Midas tank to give you hope.;) 150g will be a good sized tank for your Midas.

Ing that's gorgeous. Wow he dose not shred the plants? And how often do you have to add more small fish?

Just talked to Gage the other day and he has some bigger Midas around the 5"+ mark. His vendor name here on MFK is Cichlid Connection.

Yes I sent him an email and I am checking on shipping prices. Eventually, that will be what determins if I can afford one. Im going to browse through his stock and see if there is anything else I like to go along with it. If anyone has a suggestion on fish he carries that would pair well let me know. Perhaps I will see if I can get a two Midas.

No he doesn't shred them at all. As for the fish I don't have to replace any of them. The Platys replenish themselves since they don't have any real predators. Everything else like the cory cats, plecos, and clown loaches lay low anyway. My widowed Salvini keeps to herself and her babies so she isen't a problem. only problem I have are the tetra's that occasionally jump out at night. I lost a few but I think those were the special ones if you know what I mean. Natural selection at it's best. lol
