No he doesn't shred them at all. As for the fish I don't have to replace any of them. The Platys replenish themselves since they don't have any real predators. Everything else like the cory cats, plecos, and clown loaches lay low anyway. My widowed Salvini keeps to herself and her babies so she isen't a problem. only problem I have are the tetra's that occasionally jump out at night. I lost a few but I think those were the special ones if you know what I mean. Natural selection at it's best. lol
