Mike's 120g Log

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had 1000g of Biomax and 750g of prefilter in an old established tank for a week prior to adding them to the FX5, so I think they at least got a headstart with bacterial cultures. If all goes as planned, this coming weekend will be for rays (not the 15/16, but the following). I'm going to test the water on Thurs or Fri to make sure I've got the green light.

Zach...the FX5 is sex. I loaded it up with media, added a little more than 2 gallons of tank water to the canister, and let it rip. It primed, ran for 2 minutes, stopped for 2 minutes to allow the air to escape, then ran like mad ever since. Best canister I've ever owned...by a long shot. The current is really strong and the duel outlet exhuasts make this easier. I just wish it was on wheels like the 2080.

So I finally had it with the floating feces and crap and gave in. I was able to pull this off with only 40lbs of gravel. I may go even thinner before the rays come, but for now, I think I like it!

Looks great!!!
I like your inspiration, thats where part of mine is coming from (well I wanted my inspiration to look like CDM's tank, but my mind got a little carried away and drifted away :) ).
So whens your "1x AAA Jardini" coming in? I wanna see some pics :)

;) I think we're speaking the same language...

I picked up a small gold severum last night for my GF. Pics to follow later today.

BTW, the pike can be yours for $25. The cat is holding at $10. Pbass are no longer for sale!

So the first permanent resident of the 120g arrived today!

I want to take a minute to offer a whole hearted sign of appreciation to John at ECZS. I stopped in and met him for the first time today. He was a great help and a wealth of info. A top notch seller with top notch fish in stock!

I originally planned on getting two small Motoros to start, but this one caught my eye. Disk size is in the 7-8" mark I would assume. The ray was eating shrimp about two hours after being released into the tank. MINDBLOWING! It's been with me for about 8 hours now and it doing great. It's pounced on my small pbass twice, which is a good sign I'm sure! If all goes well, expect another ray or two in the coming weeks. I haven't gotten a chance to sex this one yet as I've been running around like mad since he was acclimated. I'll be sure to do so tomorrow.

My camera skills are far behind the pace, but you get the idea. The chainlinks are awesome! It should turn into a gorgeous ray as it picks up some size! Wish me luck...this is my first ray!
