Mini- monster cichlids

If you don't mind that they're African, jewel cichlids are probably the meanest you can find at that size. They regularly kicked my JD's butt when he was twice their size! (In addition to all of my other fish of course).

First time I owned one I caught it wild and put it with killies larger than itself. I ended up with 5 tail-less killies, no more snails, and I don't even have to mention the pet ghost shrimp.

grammodes can get up to a foot though it takes them a long time to get there

I've never seen a Grammodes that big but then again I've never kept them.

yeah not many people have them that big because they grow slow and iv never personally seen one that big but i have seen pictures

I just did a google and you're right. I had no idea they get that big. Never seen one that size. 7 maybe 8 inches but nothing near a foot.

yeah like i said i havent personally seen ones that big either its not very common for someone to have them that long i guess all i know is i would feel sorry for any other fish put in with them at half that size needless to say at full grown!!

The smallest most aggressive fish I have is a convict. She wasn't afraid of an Oscar that could dam near swallow her. Some of that aggression came from protecting her nest. She would circle around a piece of wood and bit the Oscar on the side and then swim around running from the Oscar so fast the Oscar had no chance....then swim back around the wood and do it again. It was pretty funny to watch, Never seen a fish that small go after a fish 6x bigger. Her and the firemouth would flair and lip lock all day.

Never had one but from what I've gathered from books, mfk, and fish enthusiasts, neets are the meanest "mini-monsters" of the new world cichlids! A cichlid version of Danny Bonnaducci tweaking on roids! Don't know where you would find one though!

for mini monsters, its a toss up between convicts and salvinis. firemouths are no where near as agreesive as cons and sals. both my cons and sals have stood up to fish 3 to 4 times larger than they are. that was also when no fry were involved. when fry were involved, all the other fish at the top and to the side of the tank.

i would have to go with salvini for being a little bit stronger. this is only because they get a little bit bigger, but both have the heart of a fighter and never back down.
