minimum lmb tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
3ft wide by 8ft long is plenty. They do get huge but the odds of growing one to over 30" in a home aquarium are slim at best. 96x36x24 would be just fine so long as you dont have too many other large fish in there with it. In my opinion the ideal realistic tank for adult cichla and LMB in the home would be 120x48x30. More would be grand but most people dont have room for tanks much larger than that, even in a large house. You could always go taller and get more gallons but it really isnt necessary unless you like wet arm pits or dirty substrate.

Speaking from experience having a LMB in my tank. I wouldnt recommend it unless your filthy rich and you have that kind of money to spend on constant upgrades.

I would stick to species that reach less than 12 ".

Bluegill can get huge years down the line...

I would recommend some nice Sunfish species that wont outgrow the tank.

If you like LMB action and fiestyness, just go for a green sunfish or a warmouth. Red Eye Bass, Rock Bass are kool too

I dont understand those saying 400+, the largest caught was only 25 inches! id say anything larger than a 180 gallon is good, like a 240.

Ah darn, im stupid....the bass weighed 25 pounds! it was 32 inches long! but still, maybe only a few percent of the bass population may get that big.

I agree with the sizes of the tank you mentioned

Pond.

I dont think 180gal is good for LMB or any larger black bass species IMO.

it all depends on personal prference

It doesnt matter, its depends what lenght and the wide of the tank, I still think 180 is too small due to the length.
