Hey guys.

By the way no-one answered my other question (my bad wasn't that obvious). Anyway, can a Silver Aro and a Black Aro live together right? And what about a male female pair of silvers with the black? Would that make me have to increase the size of tank? I'm not too worried about that tho, as if they do breed it'll all pay off.

The only way afaik to tell sexes is if you get lucky and buy a pair, getting them to breed in an aquarium in all probability isnt going to happen. 3 Aro's can work but yes you'll need a bigger tank. Caution though some aros are real aggressive so 3 and even 2 might not work. Black Aro's are harder than silvers to find and much more expensive than silvers but they can work together.

exactly. enough said.
Ignore this. He also stated a 125 will work for life for a Silver aro. Even with 10 saying no to an 8x2x2 and one yes he's not going to listen to sound advise. Besides with 3 aros no way will an 8x2x2 work.

I think you've gotten more than enough sound advise so anymore will only be repeating whats already been said and beating a dead horse. Unless you have new questions.

How is that enough said? Oh I get it, you're admitting you're wrong in saying a 2' wide tank will be alright for life because it has only taken 2 years for his aro to get past 24" and he's planning a [much] bigger home for it. Well done for being big enough to admit you made a mistake.
:D

you asked like an hour and a half ago give it a lil time lol :grinno:

Sorry, i'm a little impatient. (don't (or didn't for some very smart MFKers) you want to try and learn every thing you could in such little time)

8x2x2 should be good enough for a silver for "life". it'll adjust till 30 or so inches and thereafter it'll probably die. So all its "life" it'll be there. "good for life".

I think you already know the answer. Also you have already made up your mind. unfortunately, both the answer to ur question and ur notion are contrary to each other. so why invite debate when ur mind is already made up. so dont speculate; just go ahead and keep it in the 8x2x2 and find out for urself !

may be ur aro will stop growing beyond 16 inches ??? LOL.

good luck.

WTF? I didn't mention I was going to put it in a 8x2x2, I said 8x3x3? I have not made up my mind yet either. My mind will not be made till I get the tank and get to the get go.

I'm sorry, I don't understand the words like notion and speculate. (i'm not that smart).

okay, so to sum it up, lol, an 8x3x3 should be fine for life. Yes, you can keep multiple silvers/blacks together, but having 2 together is very tricky and you need to find the right combo.

ahh, the age-old argument....

nice thread! good read... i don't usually read threads from start to finish but bitteraspects posts made it a little interesting.. i'm pretty sure you know what to do now, given the proper advise and also bitteraspects's "what not to do" advise..
good luck with your project..

Conclusion: We are all Arowana experts in our own right. There is not one correct answer. It is open to debate and will depend on the individual arowana. The bigger the tank the better.

Well I've got the go ahead for an 8x3x3 so thats his/her home for life.

Awesome! Now you face the potentially hard part, finding multiple silvers that wont bite the others fins to shreds. I had 3 in an 8x4x2.5 but they were very small and they did ok until the 4 line pims that were only an inch longer ate 2 of them :irked: FYI young Arowana are weaklings and very easily bullied by other fish. I'd grow them out in a smaller tank to 8" a least before you add them to the 8x3x3 if you plan on other fish in there. I fed mine Hikari Tropical Food Sticks, freeze dried krill, frozen bloodworm and crickets and it grew like a weed! the Azoo 9 in 1 aro sticks were crap imo, they turned to mush fast and fell apart and a lot wasted by my aro while he was eating them. I didn't have this prob with the Hikari sticks. Congrats and keep us updated.
