saying fish size is situational is REAL advise. no 2 fish are the same. period. i never said it grows to the size of the tank, but i have seen fish at both sizes. while 14 is an extreme, it does happen. i never said anything about keeping a 30" aro in a 10g tank, but keep in mind, you dont neccesarily NEED 8' tank

I disagree with the statement "you don't necessarily NEED 8' tank. i think that you are right in saying fish size is situational (not they will stay small in a small tank). In my opinion anything less than an 8' tank for a silver arowana or any fish that will grow to over 2ft as a permanent home is just too small infact i would go as far as to say that any fish that is going to get or is 16" or more needs an 8x2x2 minimum its not fair on the fish otherwise id say 10x3x3 is a more permanent home for a silver arowana an 8x3x3 for a sub 2ft silver but the chances are properly cared for a silver will get to 30"+ eventually.

Midnight; just wondering if you have any plans to upgrade the tank, or are you just going to make the fish fold itself in half every time it turns for the remainder of its life? It doesn't look uncomfortable now, and its certainly not at the ürgent"stage yet, but at 28" it should still be growing.

Tom500; why do you recommend the 3' depth? Obviously more is better, but I wouldn't see it as being necessary for a big silver. I'd much rather see a large aro in a, 8x4x2 than an 8x3x3.

I thought it was 300 before i ordered it but somewhere on a website it had that conversion thing...i put in my footprint 96x30x24 expected a 300 but it came out to 285. the site could be wrong and i dont remember where i seen that...

That website may have had compensation for the thickness of the glass. A 96 x 30 x 24 and 96 x 24 x 30 are standard size for 300g tanks. However they do actually only hold about 280g of water.

To find the exact volume, measure the internal dimension L x W x H and divide by 231.

haha where did you get your info from?
If you look there are alot more than just silvers around.
8x3x2 is heaps of room for a silver.
Only aro that seems hard to get in oz atm is africans

Where do you look? The site that I look at the only 2 aros that are commonish and not native are the silvers and asians. Where do you find Blacks man? I would love one of them as well? (BTW that is another question lol :grinno:)

lol
at 28" it should still be growing????
you think he isnt growing or something?
my aro is only 2 years old and already at 28"
lots of guys on here have 5-7 year old aros that are only 30"
:screwy:
so ya,i think he will keep growing ;)

and no need to worry
my aro will love his next home
and it will be better then 99% of the tanks anyone else has ;)

It'll be interesting to see if your aro keeps up that growth rate once in the pond. Yours seems to not have it's growth slow around the 24" mark like most seem to do. Must be what your feeding it.:D

Midnights only gets live food, and varied one at that.

Hey guys.

By the way no-one answered my other question (my bad wasn't that obvious). Anyway, can a Silver Aro and a Black Aro live together right? And what about a male female pair of silvers with the black? Would that make me have to increase the size of tank? I'm not too worried about that tho, as if they do breed it'll all pay off.

ya i laughed at that saying lol :D
