Missing Aro

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got all excited. I jumped up to check. Not in there. I put scrubbies in all the open ares, there is really no room in the hob filter.

Badfish, I'll put duck tape on tomorrow before the new Aro arrives. He's suppose to be twice the size so I hope I don't have any problems. I don't understand why the Rays haven't tried to eat the danios. Their smaller then the Aro was.

check behind your tank! or he had prob been a meal.

Have you read any of the post? That was the first thing I checked. I went behind the tank through the stand, around the tank under the bed... Everywhere.

For my inlet, I just put a small netting or something that does not disrupt much water flow, but still make it small enough to prevent your aro from getting sucked until the aro gets bigger and can swim away from the suction. I wish you good luck with your new ARo tomorrow!!! I would love to get a black Aro, but here in the Mid-west, it's EXTREMELY rare to see one :(

OH MY.. listen to the people on this forum.. we dont want you to lose your fish...

A 3" Silver arow is far far too delicate.. and a baby black arowana is probably x10 more delicate.. Blks are harder to keep when young than Silvers..

Also.. u DO know that when silver arowana sleep.. they dont just stay on top...? Yes they do sleep and they will swim up and down the tank.... i've seen enough of my two silvers at 18" to know that it is quite possible for silver arowana or any arowana to be on the bottom where maybe a Ray could get to it...

I suggest learn from this and dont make the same mistake twice with the blk.. invest in a breeder tank of 10-20 gallon and grow out the fish until its 8" MAX then it can be with other tankmates..

Also, there are reports of Baby blks not eating for no reason.. so be super careful with a blk arowana..

I have came to the conclusion that the silver aro got pulled into the overflow. I'm not sure how he didn't get pushed out with the pressure of the water. As soon as I put the Black aro in this morning he went by the overflow and almost got sucked in. He was able to swim away, once I saw that I pulled the screen over it.

If your silver had been sucked into the over flow then wouldn't you have found it in your sump?

At such a small size, i think the silver might not have made it through in one piece, whereby it may have eventually ended up in particles in the filter, whereby you may never find it anyway. I was gonna guess it got pulled through the overflows. I put sponges on mine when fish were that delicate. Good luck with the black!

That's what I thought would happen. Maybe he's still in the overflow? I figured the pressure would force him out... I don't know. When I saw how hard it was for the Black Aro to escape, I figured that is what had to have happen. Again the Black Aro is about twice the size that the Silver was.
