Can't leave out Ricardo Arona. It's really a shame he got all messed up on drugs :( Maybe it was the famous Rampage slam that did him in.
Gomi was amazing when he was in Pride. Always liked watching him fight.

one thing that turned me off about arona was his attitude

the guy was a whiner and made excuses for every loss

but he was one of the top guys in that division. if i'm not mistaken, he gave wanderlei his first loss after such a long reign

there was talk of him returning and maybe even into the ufc, but i haven't heard anything since. it was in an interview not too long ago. he still looks pretty solid, he still trains and rolls and a lot of surfing but who knows what kind of fight shape he's in now. i can't imagine he'd be able to hang at the top at this point but who knows

and yea, gomi is the one guy that put pride bushido on the map. he truly did live up to his nickname. fire ball kid is exactly what he was. i had the pleasure of seeing him fight live and lose to nick diaz, but it was great to see him live regardless

I read a comment saying it was premature. (Krichardson).

I didn't say that it was I just said that it might have seemed so at first.

what the hell is going on with zuffa and golden glory gym??? something went down and they pissed someone off because zuffa just release Marloes Coenan, overeem's brother and another guy from golden glory

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/Coach-Coenen-Einemo-Overeem-Released-by-Zuffa-34485

Only days after Strikeforce’s abrupt dismissal of heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, three of the Dutchman’s teammates have also been ousted from the Zuffa ranks.

“I am very disappointed to let you know that
Marloes Coenen, John Einemo and Valentijn Overeem have been cut from Strikeforce [and the] UFC,” Golden Glory head coach Martijn de Jong wrote Wednesday on his personal Twitter account.

Perhaps the most shocking cut is Coenen (Pictured), who lost her Strikeforce women’s 135-pound title to
Miesha Tate last Saturday in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s top female fighters, Coenen, 30, had compiled a 3-2 record in the Strikeforce cage since joining the promotion in 2009, finishing
Sarah Kaufman, Liz Carmouche and Roxanne Modafferi by way of submission, while falling to Tate and current 145-pound champ Cristiane “Cyborg.” A 10-year veteran of the sport, Coenen holds an impressive 19-5 mark, with 14 wins via submission.

Heavyweight grappler Einemo, meanwhile, was a surprising addition to the
UFC roster to begin with. The 35-year-old ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships titlist had not competed in MMA for more than four years when he was signed by the company in March. Einemo’s lone Octagon outing came at June’s UFC 131, where he came up on the losing end of the “Fight of the Night” against Dave Herman, who halted Einemo on second-round punches.

Valentijn Overeem, the elder sibling of Alistair, defeated
Ray Sefo in his February Strikeforce debut to earn an alternate slot in the company’s 2011 heavyweight world grand prix. However, in his June bout on the undercard of his brother’s fight with Fabricio Werdum, the 34-year-old Dutch “Python” tapped out to punches from Chad Griggs after just two minutes.

Brett Rogers was cut from Strikeforce also.

wow man, i guess we can expect to see a merger a lot sooner

with golden glory, where the overeems and marloes coenen trains, they are apparently a promotion also and not just a fight camp. so basically what i'm getting is that zuffa doesn't want to pay the fighters through golden glory or something like that. so they axed all the golden glory fighters

Well, we knew that Zuffa doesn't like women's mma, and also that Valentijn was *only* there because his brother had a contract. When Alistair got the cut (I'm assuming it has *something* to do with steroid cycle times and not a 3 month toe injury), you knew Valentijn was on his way out. I would imagine that the women all slowly get the cut. Well, probably faster than that, but it's coming.
