I agree with all of that.I was saying that Chael looked as if he would soon be knocked out in response to the comments about him lasting or holding out for twenty seven seconds.I think he would have been out before that amount of time ran down..Hypothetical but I think another ten seconds from the stoppage point and he would have been sleep.

Yes, he would have been knocked out. I agree with the stoppage as I said earlier. All that I'm saying is Chael was getting whooped, but was still 27sec from victory. I didn't say that he would have lasted that long, but it's crazy how close he was to a title.

I'm with Kric, Jones obviously new his toe was broken and i'm guessing he knew the ref would probably have stopped it when the round ended, but Sonnen wouldn't of lasted 10 more seconds if the ref didn't stop it when he did. Did you see Sonnen, he was banged up. Jones would of broken him if the barrage of punches went on. Even if Chael had won because of Jones injury it still wouldn't of been a ''win'' because he clearly lost that round. Jones was going to win 9/10 and I think the only way anyone if going to beat him is a sneaky submission. He has more reach then Struve ffs. Belfort did come close though.

Jones didn't know about his foot until the interview; he didn't even notice when they raised his hand.

if a fight is stopped due to an injury, the win goes to the other fighter via tko. who was winning is irrelevant. i can be kicking someone's face in all night but if I break my ankle and can't continue, the other guy is declared the winner by tko.

unless there was an injury due to an illegal strike, accidental eyepoke or headbutt or something, then it will be a NC, DQ or go to the judges scorecards depending on what happened and what round it was. those are the rules

and yes, jones was unaware of the injury, he was celebrating and doing cartwheels and everything. he then noticed when joe rogan approached him for the postfight interview

The fight kind of reminded me of the boxing match between Meldrick Taylor and Julio Caesar Chavez from years ago...Meldrick was out pointing Chavez and was on his way to a unaminous decision untill he was caught with a vicious combo late in the twelfth...There was maybe twenty seconds or less left but he was knocked down.He was able to get to his feet but after a standing eight, the ref waived the fight over.

in hindsight, I think the ref did taylor dirty on that one. don't know if he was paid or what but there's controversy all over that fight iirc. I remember seeing a documentary on it. i'm a chavez fan but that was a bad call to stop the fight.

and it's sad to see taylor now. that was his moment on top of the world and it was taken away from him, never to have another moment again for the rest of his life. very sad story

Yeah,I think that fight and how it turned out really did a number on him mentally.I used to see him around town a few years ago and the last time I saw him he was with this radical, religious group and they were set up on a busy corner yelling and preaching their beliefs through a bullhorn.

I don't remember that fight. Chavez was a bit before my time, but I've seen a number of his fights (can't stand his son). Really makes you think about how one bad call can change someones life forever; too bad for Taylor.

Looks like Gustafsson is fighting Machida. Both have agreed to the fight since Jones is out. Hopefully they ink the deal because this could be a good one.

yea saw the Machida/Gus thing earlier

if you don't know about the taylor/chaves thing, look into it. it's really interesting. you can youtube the fight if i'm not mistaken. taylor was way ahead on points and in the last round with seconds to go chavez lands a hard punch, taylor gets up and get an 8 count and the ref looked at him and waived off the fight. taylor would've won by dec. since then, taylor has come back with some success but he started suffering from head blows, kind of like holyfield. now his speech is extremely slurred and it's really sad to see him in interviews

that was his one time in the spotlight, one time to glory and he got screwed

Just watched it, and wow, that was a great fight. I think that I have seen it before though.
I was very impressed with Taylors' ability to outbox Chavez on the inside; a lot of head fighting.
They waved him off with 5sec left. I could see how that would be mentally unbearable. He dedicated his life to getting that one chance, and then the ref waves him off with 5sec left; brutal.
I didn't agree with Ledermans' card (I rarely do), but I only gave Chavez 3 rounds, including the 12th. Still a pretty dominant performance by Taylor. Sad to see him go out like that.
